Hi guys,

I was watching that 13 year-old french-canadian tv series, and I saw that little girl playing a racing game (she was turning the wheel with some bad sound effects lol). When they turned around I could see the computer screen, and the game was GPL :o The thing is, they put the game in replay mode lol. But only GPL nerds like us would know that right ? :P Track is Kyalami ; it's so weird to see an out-of-the-box version of GPL lol

So if you guys have seen GPL in tv series/shows, please post your screenshots here with a little story :)

I've seen a vid back in 2003 at simracing.nl, it was a Belgian TV program (Autovision, in French) giving attention to GPL, the driver was Benoit Scutnaire, and some other guys were in it like Damien Lefévre, Danny Charlier and Mark Lepage. Sadly the links to it don't work anymore.

Maybe someone from the early period has that video still!?

Yes, that's the one, thanks! ;)

For ppl who don't know their French (C'est la vie) this is a summary of the content:

First Benoit Scutnaire is talking, he explains why they chose the 1967 season:

- gentlemen's drivers era
- last year without sponsoring
- last year without aerodynamic aids
- another year with profiled tires
- it was a mythical year, with overpowered cars that were hard to control

Benoit tells he's a simracer since 1998 thanks to GPL. GPL isn't a game, but a real simulator. It is still the reference to other sims. Sierra/Papyrus did a good job with studying a realistic rendering of the physics. The driving behaviour approaches reality without doubt., you need to dose the throttle, countersteer, in short it demands a complete learning process. This is the reason it didn't become a commercial succes. Through the internet a worldwide GPL-community drived, and all sorts of add-on tracks you can download. The most astonishing aspect is undoubtly the great amount of extra tracks.

There are yearly World Championships organized, for novices to Grand Prix' for the cracks. They drive on Fridaynights GP's for about an hour. Some teams are being supported by engineers, like Danny Charlier. He isn't a fast driver, but knows a lot about setting up the car, and finds satisfaction in this way in GPL, more than driving itself.

Finally they let Marc Lepage speak. He was looking for maximum realism and therefore arrived at GPL. What surprised him pleasantly was the fact -in contrary to what he expected- that the experienced drivers did help the beginning drivers and slower drivers with pleasure.

Finally some good advice: perseverance is the name of the game.
