Two questions about the new Can AM Rank.

1) The Road Atlanta time is drastically different from all the rest in the rank. All of the rank benchmarks are the pole times of the real race.. except Road Atlanta which is a full 10 seconds quicker than the real world pole! Surely this should be 1:17, not 1:07.

2) Donnybrook has been missed from the Rank. I know Don71 isn't out any more than Sudschleife is, but we DO have a GPL Donnybrook and from what I can tell, the layout isn't any different than it was in 71.

1) I can only assume that Road Atlanta was either wet or featured a temporary chicane, and so the lap times were much slower than they should have been. If it was a 1.17 target it wouldn't be much of challenge.

2) I get the impression that a new Donnybrooke could be released soon, so we might as well wait for a more accurate version.

1. I'm sure it's a typing error and will be corrected when it's observed by the admins, because the real pole time was 1.17.000 according to this,
http://www.classicsc...anam1971.html#3
On the gplrank page the quickest time is a high 1.07 so it seems to be an easy benchmark

2. Have a little patience.

The new Donnybrooke ( donbro71 ) will be released in a few weeks. It will be not ready with the MOD so please wait with patience for it; thanks.

The new Road America ( roadam67 ) will be the next in line so, in a few months it will be ready; I hope you will enjoy.

New Road America? That holy grail has been awaited longer than Monza '66! Incredible...

So does this mean that the CanAm Rank on the GPLRank site is an interim version only?

Well.... the actual ROAD ATLANTA track length was 2.52 miles, whereas the GPL track is listed in the track.ini (tra71CA.ini) as 2.477 miles.  COULD THIS have anything to do with the laptime discrepancy???

BTW, there is NO MENTION of any chicane in the race reports of the '71 event.

No..... not by Ginetto unfortunately. Cheapracer, aka Mark Beckman, said he was going to do one so Ginetto stopped his greatly improved version. Now we just wait to see what appears.

That entry in the aGPLtd has been deleted. :(

Ginetto, thanks for posting that clip, it's very interesting! I had a little look around at other clips which linked from that one, and found something a little bit spectacular. I hope I don't do THIS: at Road Atlanta! :jaw-dropping:

BUT..... if you look closely, that lap of the VERY FIRST Can-Am at Road Atlanta (well described by Oscar Koveleski) is in 1970.  They may very well have put in the chicane at the beginning of the long 'straight' , for the following year's race, to slow down the top speed of the cars.

Back to Anders' post #7 track map.  On the same web site it is stated that:

"Turn 8A is an optional chicane which was originally added for the SCCA Runoffs."

****************
... and even though it does not show much of the on-track action... this film from the 1971 SCCA National Championship Runoffs (also known as the 1971 American Road Race of Champions) is a remarkable trip back up memory lane in the pits and paddock at that event!

Yes Greg, but if you look to the 1970 race you find that the best time was 1 :18: 05 so higher than 1971.
I think the track was the same layout and the only "wrong" thing is that our GPL track is quite off.
BTW very cool video that show the pits area; hope Gaus will see it
