The 917/10 in the screen shot is the one without the rear wing as first 917/10s were which makes sense for a 1971 mod.

Do you plan to make a 917/10 with the rear wing that began in 1972 ?

From that angle it looks like a 917/10.  It has the long tail of a 917/10 anyway.  I have seen that livery on a 917/10 but not the 917/30.

Regardless, it looks very cool !

I have never seen any car refered to as a 917/10K.  I looked it up at google and there was a mention of it on an ultimatecars page but the wikipedia page and racingsportscars do not have any reference to it.  RSC calls it a 917/10 TA.  Things that make you say, hmm...

Never heard of a 917/10K either although the '69 917PA CanAm car was basically a chopped down '69 917K.  Then the '71 917/10 non turbo was a derivative of the '69 917PA.

The '72 917/10 CanAm was the first turbo followed by the '73 917/30 turbo.

The "Pink Pig" '71 LeMans car was called the 917/20.

The Porsche 917/10K was the first turbo Porsche Can-Am car from the factory.  First race was Mosport 1972 with Mark Donohue.

Tuesday's screenshots posted early for our European fan's wake up.

These stars are the Lola T260 and Lola T222.
i lived real close to Bob Nagel when i was a kid and was in "AWE" of him..My real hero was Jackie Stewart and i couldn,t get over the fact that Bob raced on the same track as Jackie Stewart at the same time.
I remember touching Bob,s Can-Am car and it was like like touching the "Holy Grail" to me!!
Those Can-Am cars were the GREATEST cars that ever raced !!

The 917/10K's earshattering roar and eye watering exhaust fumes were fearsome. I was lucky to stand within a few feet of the beast in 1972 at Mosport while the Porsche mechanics exercised the engine. They played it like some hellish pipe organ; my friends and I were awesruck. Even though the car suffered some mechanical gremlin which prevented a win, it was obvious from it's pace in practice and the race that the McLaren dominance was over.

Such casual access is impossible today. The Glen garage was a paradise for fans, giving intimate access to the whole circus. From the pitroof seats at the Glen we could eavesdrop on Chapman, Donohue, Andretti, etc. I'll never forget peeking inside the Tyrrell garage and seeing Jackie Stewart crouching in a corner trying to get it together, or exchanging pleasantries with Pedro Rodriguez in the old Glen pits. The MidOhio garage access is currently equally intimate; one can actually touch the cars and converse with drivers, mechanics, engineers, etc. I feel lucky to have been present during the 60's and 70's; 20 Glen, Mosport, and St. Jovite F1 races and almost as many Sportscar and Canam races at the Glen, Mosport, and MidOhio provided a lifetime of memories. Lest I be exposed as another old coot pining for the old days, it must be admitted we are living in the golden age of F1 right now.

Greg, that's interesting that one of my favorite mags called Follmer's 1972 917/10 a 917/10K.  As a life member of the reality police, I really get into the historical aspects of all our mods; especially when it concerns Porsches.   :)

I've got four or five books on Porsche's including Ourster's definitive source on racing Porsches.  None call the car a 917/10K.  However, a Google search turns up numerous websites that use that name.

I guess the only way to be sure is to visit the Porsche museum and ask.

Or ask the guy who paid 11 million U.S. for the car last month at Monterey.  For that price, he can call it anything he wants.   :D
