Since one week, and only for the fun, I tried to test my motherboard  sound chipset / GPL
.I desinstalled first the Creative X Fi fatal!ty pro card and its drivers ect.(that 's globally work well with GPL)

  The embarked sound chipset is

Motherboard : Asus  P7 P 55 DE Pro
Sound chipset brand : VIA
     version : 7.5.00.33
Codec : VT1828S ( 10 channels)  http://www.via.com.t...s/hd-codecs.jsp ( but I guess it will work with others codecs on the list)
Driver : 6.0.1.7500
hardware :  4 satellites loudspeakers + a separate big woofer set in 5.1. All speakers connected to the Mobo line out.

Decided to perform various back and forth / back and forth,  again and again ect.... tests on the harder situations where GPL is known for its never ending scratchy noises flaws that come from time to time :
- after  driver car crashes
- running for a long time in pack
- stopping practice session and entering again
- testing very long practice /race sessions.
- quicks swaps between car camera  in replays

OS : Win 7  32 b -  Win XP 32b.
Full Hardware acceleration
GPL sound vol : Max
GPL  sound numbers : Max
Simply using the VIA HD AUDIO Deck software to tweak the sound. (pic)
All has run flawlessly inside GPL.:D  .

Results :  Never experienced a problem so far :D .and no fps drop.

As ASUS, MSI and certainly others common brands MoBo commonly use such VIA integrated soundcards, If you plan to change your Mobo with a VIA chipset, maybe it is safe to give it a try before investing on a separate  sound card.

This because so bored and nothing else to do?

Thank you, sir, for making this significant tedious-clicking sacrifice on behalf of all GPLrs.
Aren't you running a pretty good CPU and video card? Wonder if VIA was ever the problem with sound issues? Maybe rather CPUs of the past/present?

John,

thks for your interest .Maybe those recent VIA integrated sound  chipsets shld be listed on Bob Simpson  GPL FAQ troubleshooting guide as the so long awaited definitive cure for those plagued with sounds pbs.

Hardware config is in  my profile( click on "about me') , so you can judge about CPU and GFX card. Don't know much about any relation between any CPU and sound quality .Is it what you mean ? I rather think they have no influence for the sound in GPL ( ??)

And sry for the late answer, but  I have some more fresh good  infos about  reliability of the  VIA /GPL combination  The sound never failed to perform great inside GPL after multiple game loads ( around number 100  and maybe... more ! ) As well that I don' t know if  one day I 'll reinstall the Creative X FI !

Yes I was thinking, maybe it was in the past GPL graphic input and AI overload that ate up processing capacity even with separate video card it was still not enough to provide for sound as well, thus no fault of VIA, or maybe combo of two now resolved, as your proof indicates? That newer rigs can handle way more load.
Now myself running a low end 7.1 sound card that can't handle sounds of few cars racing close...everything breaks up full of clipping. So things will change soon for sure.

  John,

Just hoping some of us with a recent PC hardware / and VIA sound chipset experience will post here,   to confirm (or not :idunno:) those tests and get the best of GPL

This is good info. I am currently looking into buying a sound card because the onboard sound (Realtek HD audio) is not very good. My computer has a PCI bus.

To be avoided  like the plague seems the rule for the Realtek onboard sounds .I had one on a Mobo, and the sound was a complete Posted Image . You cldn 't play GPL with those, and the sound was without relief for other applications.

In your case, if you want to keep your Mobo, I am afraid you won 't have access to the VIA chipset . You 'll have to change your mobo or go for a soundcard that GPL "accept" .The X Fi above is an alternative secure choice

and at today date, after other GPL tests, the VIA never failed to deliver great results. And with no bugs

Thanks for the advice,

I don't know if they make an X Fi with the older PCI Interface.

I closest that I could find is a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card - OEM
Sample Rate: 96KHz
Digital Audio: 24-bit
SNR: 100dB
Line In: Yes
Price: $24 and $7 shipping

I might start a new topic asking for help on the decision because like you said the Realtek onboard sound is just barely acceptible.

I don't know if you might have an old model, but my Realtek HD audio is really quite good - sound is always output in high quality.

I used to run an Audigy card with my older computer and it worked well.

What Operating System do you use?

I'm sorry that I hijacked the topic.

My computer specifications:
Model: HP Pavilion a1102n
O.S.: Windows XP
Processor: Pentium 4 (2.93 ghz) Speed step
Motherboard: Goldfish3-GL8E (a.k.a. ASUS PTGD-LA)
Onboard Audio: Realtek ALC880 8-channel High Definition Audio CODEC
Sound Driver Version: 5.10.0.5172
Sound Driver Date: 9-23-2005
Expansion Slots: Three PCI

The computer was purchased in 2005.
Since then, I upgraded the video card, ram and powersupply.
The onboard sound is good except while playing GPL.
I recently reinstalled windows and tried to update all the software, drivers, etc

THANK YOU,
Walter

great that recent Realtek  works . I only remember the topics with people complaining at Racesim Central, with the ALC 7 series or older ones. Was before Vista and 7 .

so that 's useful to insist the VIA / GPL works like a charm on Windows XP .
