Following on from my previous 'Graphical Problems' post, I'm finding that the mirror image quality is below par compared to the rest of the screen. It looks paler, blocky and less crisp. Is there, please, a way of correcting this?

Many thanks  :)

you need change a couple of values in the core.ini

from the readme
"* DoubleMirrorResWidth = 1
* DoubleMirrorResHeight = 1

The mirrors look rather blurry if you are running at resolutions of 1280x1024 or higher, so these options will double the resolution of the mirror texture. This is only worth doing if you run at 1024x 768 or greater, or if your graphics card is fast enough.

If you experience framerate problems after doubling both the horizontal and the vertical resolutions, try running with only the vertical resolution doubled."

also if you have low res mirrors with the gt mod drop a larger mirror.mip from another mod .

Thanks, John.

I looked at the 2 values you mentioned - they're both set to '1' but they're Direct3D7 which was giving me problems (I have an ATI card) so I switched to OpenGL v2.

Do you have an idea how to correct the problem in that case?

Thanks a lot  :)

You should be able to find a value in core.ini with the label "MirrorSize". Try doubling that to double your mirror resolution. I think the default value is 64, and I have mine set to 128 which seems fine for me. (NOTE: The value must always be a power of two, such as 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 etc.) If you're using GEM, then you can achieve the same thing more easily by clicking on the "Rasteriser" button and selecting the required value from the drop-down box in the dialog.

Try substituting this mirror.mip file for the one located in your \cars\cars67\ (or whatever name of your cars folder)
This is the highest res mirror 'mip' that I know of....

Thank you all for your input. I worked my way through without success until Greg's suggestion, and the simple swapping of the 'offending' mip with the one from the cars67 folder did the trick!  :clap2:

Thanks again...

And thank you Pete for your offering

Hi, I found this files by Alan D. with different resolution of mirrors.mip
Now I include the Greg“s 256x256, and a new one with 512x512

For all that will need it.

:hat-tip:

ok, i may have a stupid question. but what exactly does mirror.mip do?
i'm using a 256x256 and have had my mirror size set to 512 via gem > rasterizers forever.

the mip, however, looks solely black to me. not even transparency in it, so what does it do?

I don't know exactly, but they are not like the other *. Mip files containing graphic images.
Actually I think it acts more like a camera or a screen where there GPL project images.
The other files from mirrors that are inside the folder of each car, they are graphics, so you can include the image of the wheel or behind and the engine, but no movement, they are like a picture. This ones must have a transparent "_ti.mip", just to see the images of "mirror.mip".
Sometime ago I try to insert a mirror.mip file for the external mirrors of the cars, but they dont work properly.  They gave you a different image every time you enter or exit from cockpit, but don't have a constant motion.
