A few weeks back I was looking at a website reviewing the top racing games in chronological order and discovered unsurprisingly that GPL was on the list. After being confined to the XBox for racing games for many years I though I would order GPL from ebay for the princely sum of £4 just to see how it ran on my laptop (HP G62 64bit with AMD Radeon 4250). While I was waiting for the postman to arrive I came across this amazing website and the GPL track database and have just been blown away by the fantastic efforts of a great number of people in producing everything from idiot proof installers to complete car sets and a plethora of new circuits.
I am really happy to say that the game runs like a dream on my laptop, and I am able to have the detailed turned up to the max with 10 opponents at present (will try and turn that up next time I play). Due to being made redundant a few months back and having serious problems finding work I am having to drive with an old Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2 joystick, but I intend to buy a wheel when I can afford it. Making the jump from F1 2011 on the xbox to GPL was a major leap, I had forgotten that these cars cant just be pointed at a corner and expected to pass round it without a bit (a lot !) of sliding and correcting the wheel !. However, the xbox hasn't been turned on since I got GPL as it blows it away which is amazing for 14 year old game - can this be said of any other video game ?. I think not.
A SINCERE thanks to everyone who has produced and continues to produce add ons for this game, I hope to be playing it for many years to come and can't wait to install some more circuits.
