Has he gone into calibration (wheel plugged in) through ControlPanel> Games Controllers> next (can't remember wheter it is 'Advanced' or 'Properties' )and moved wheel and all controls that he needs, checking that they show up and move ? Then calibrate inside GPL itself
I sometimes lose wheel response when I have been making changes inside GPL and this fixes it

DFP is the one with two pedals and sequential shifter? Strange, the game should recognize it then even without GPLShift (which is required for any wheels with H-shifters). Does the guy have any other controllers plugged to his PC (joystick, joypad)? Sometimes GPL doesn't allow you to go past calibration screen if you don't adjust ALL controller axis, even if later you gonna bind and use only half of them.
