Not afraid of racing online Johnny. At one time I was racing in 6 different leagues a week. Not interested anymore.

Been there, done that.

My main interest is hunting and fly fishing now. I'm enjoying my retirement. GPL is a way for me to relax when I get a chance. I don't want to be locked into a schedule to race.

I understand your passion though. I had it once too.

So the competition is not only on the track itself...its starts already on this forum

I think that every one is free to do what he prefers, I only like to play GPL above 200 FPS...end of discussion

I always say, we all have the same hobby so whats the use of fighting against each other  ;)

My own tiny story:

To be honest I did not race that much ONLINE, I did not have much time left to do so...guys who knows me around here knows the reason...I did run a Website with many RACE-GAME-LINKS-GUIDES GPL, GTR2, rFactor and many more to make my contribution to the race-community. (many years)
It have cost me a lot of years and many hours of my own spare time.
I also have helped a lot of guys tweaking there race-sims at RacesimCentral. (to get enough FPS for instance)
What I want to say, there are more ways to make a contribution to for instance GPL, have a look also at good old Bob Simpson

Have fun !!!!

Hansje ;)

I've worked 80 hour weeks and still made my league races, but I dont have kids, or a very heavy schedule either, so again I am lucky.

@JohnnyAck:
Keep in mind that many others who enjoy GPL very much also work long hours, and also have children, heavy schedules, and multiple significant time commitments to family and to their community as well.  I do not often know in advance when I can schedule an hour or more for a full GPL race; instead I work it in when I can.

We all enjoy GPL or we would not be belaboring this point.  Please do not criticize others who don't race online, for whatever the reason.  There is room for all of us here, and how we spend our time with GPL is nobody's business but our own.

I'm glad you are able to spend time with GPL racing online, but your life and priorities are not the same as mine.  We both have fun anyway.
GPL: Still amazing after all these years ....

Another one here still using 36 fps.  If the AI would function properly for all mods, I'd make the change.
For me, the 60fps AI dart quickly from side to side ... sort of hurts the immersion factor.
To me, the difference visually is dramatic on my 24" LCD ... mostly around the edge of the screen.  However, while racing, my attention isn't focused around the edge of the screen, and I have no problems switching between the SimBin series.

Perhaps it's an age thing.  To those of us who drove the "original" graphic settings for years, those first graphic improvements from Bruce Johnson and the GPLEA were astonishing.
I would assume that most people acquiring the game now go directly to the improved tracks and cars.  So for them, 36 fps seems pretty, well, "bad".

As a kid growing up, my friends played Strat-O-Matic baseball ... a game with paper cards that you flipped over for results.
And in college, my friends played a hand-held form of electric football ... where you manuevered a red LED light through a group of "on-rushing" LED lights. Talk about lame graphics!

Given the near TV-quality of the graphics presented by PS3 and XBox360, my kids would just laugh at those old games!

I just ran 67's at 60fps. They were running at about 45fps. I then ran at 36fps and that ran about 34/35 fps. I think after that I'll stick to 36 fps. That also made me dizzy running at 60fps.

Yeah, if you can't get consistent 60fps when using the patch, then you're better off using 36fps.  60 fps only runs smooth when you can get that frame rate.  45 fps with the patch won't be as smooth as 36fps without the patch.

I use 36fps mostly because the league in which I'm racing use 36. And that's because some of our members can't run with the 60fps patch due to computer limitations.

Another problem, I guess, are the replays that are a half speed.

Cheers, Marcos

To answer the question of this thread, it's also the reason why I prefer the 36fps for the multiplayer, or against the AIs...
My pc isn't powerful enough to have a constant 60fps, and once I drop "under", the "stutters" are too problematic with many cars on the track!
However, I can also enjoy the 60fps when I "hotlap" on a "friendly track" (concerning the fps). The 60fps patch is, indeed, "smoother"; but with a steady 36fps my GPL runs like a charm too!
I'm not "for or against" the 60fps patch, but because my pc can't do "better", I'm not asking it what it can't do...   ;)

My, my.  I don't know what to say; so I'll say nothing.
Say hello to us at vroc, we are all very patient there, and all the numbskulls and kids are gone from the servers(cept for me ofc). As far as racing alone, I do end up being in the same shoes a lot. What I do is set up my machine to serve at the track im hotlapping if its slow in there, and sometimes I get visits and end up having way more fun learning with another person than alone. If you pick a track and car, I will usually launch my server for whatever anyone wants, as will others. Vroc has been my home for over 13 years, and I will remain enthusiastic about it as the first day I guess. If I didnt keep this attitude about things, everything ends up becoming boring to me. Its kind of like being married and being able to stay that way maybe? I am happy with all the great people and fun Ive had and still having in this simulation, and I will probably be found dead at my wheel one day I'm afraid. On to the new zolder course for now:) UKGPL server is up with f2s @60fps. Big thanks to ginetto and all who still contribute to this, and I will do my best to keep vroc a happy helpful place for you all when you can find the time to be here.:)

Unlimited diversity and range of choice is the foundation of Grand Prix Legends success.:2c:
If there were less diversity and less choice there would be less GPL or none at all. Making a choice does not separate GPLers. It is this circumstance that joins us all.

There are three sins imo.
Arrogance, ignorance, and greed.
Grand Prix Legends has enjoyed a community of fans and contributors that demonstrate the exact opposite: humility, intelligence, and generosity. (Except for my particular sometimes really big head, of course).
It is all very often too amazing. But you have to had been there to be amazed...like when we discovered night tracks, rain, and fog, Clermont came out, or Sergio pumped out yet another...and it keeps on going. Waiting for something new is a big part of being a part of GPL, but now there is no way to spend enough time on every track and mod to get as good on them as when there were so few.

Looking back, to the extent making choices separates any GPLer from any other, it is apparent all along our choices, (among the widest range of choice of any race sim), has been the case since day one, as a range of game-changing config choice is built-in, and the first add-on divided us among those who used it and those who didn't.

Compliments and thanks to those who have posted here so far.
