I've installed the racing line of Phil Flack.
It says pick dat, pick groove (Of gpl replay analizer)up to here is everything OK, but when it says pick centerline i don't have anything to choose.
Someone has the link to the page of centerlines?. I think it was from the old RSC

You also have to put the groove.mip in the track folder, or it wont work right...

Thanks a lot!

Also, with some tracks, you sometimes find the track surface looks like a zebra crossing after regrooving. In that case dropping the attached groove.mip file into the track folder should fix it.
PS: just noticed Sky has already provided the groove file; anyway you only need to use it for some tracks...

Speaking of which, Rob is there any chance you would consider making a .cln file for Brands67? We have 4 different ranks that use this track and it would be great to be able to regroove it. I and others would appreciate it I'm sure.

I'll have a look at Monthlery when I get time, although since I know how it was made I suspect that it will never be properly happy, in much the same way as the AI will never be 100% happy there either. That track really is a case in point for using a deliberately mismatched trk and 3do file since what you look at and what you drive on are not the same thing, or at least, they don't have to be.

Same here. Always wanted it but never knew it existed. Really necessary for getting that strange line through South Bend that only seems to work in the GPL version.
Thanks very much

If not, how hard is it to create a cln file from scratch? I have some programming skills but no understanding of the file formats.

Basically, it only works for tracks made using Phil's track making tools. The Nooonan converted tracks and also John Black's Oulton Park did not use Phil's track compiler. As a result of this, they will not regroove using Phil's Racing Line tool. There are also some other cases where stuff goes weird for other tracks too, but that particular group don't ever seem to work, despite many hours trying.

Thanks for the info Rob, seems like this is a no go then.
On the wider subject of generating cln files, this is something I'd like to look into, is it possible to do it from the track dat file alone or do you need the author's source files? I could try to spare the time to write a utility for generating cln's but I've got no knowledge of how all the files work.

For sure, a program which read a trk file, or even easier still, extracted the trk file from a dat file to make it even more automated, and then spat out a cln would be a potential time saver, rather than the current rather monotonous manual cln creation process.
However, there is also another caveat to this, that some track authors have expressly stated that they do not want clns to be made available for any of their tracks, which Phil and I have always respected. Phil's Racing Line tool, with a cln for any given track, has the potential to alter the track author's work in ways that they may not feel either necessary or historically accurate. In general, where a track creator is still active in the community I have always asked them before posting cln files that could be used to alter their work, and when someone has requested a specific cln file, I generally direct them to contact the original track author first and check that they are happy for this file to be released.

It sounds as though it can be done but as you say if there is an element of trust involved it's possible to abuse that trust. Although my intentions are genuine, I'm not known in the editing or modding community so I wouldn't expect anyone to give me this information.

I read about getting the cln files and the implications of posting them, but since the Can Am mod came out, and midOCA71 track is big part of it, I think a new racing file is needed. So I check out for a midOCA71 cln and is not available in any of the files provided.
So; is there possible to get it in order to re-groove the track ?
