Yeah, I had the same with the 67's. Not a great looking track. Too bad the F2 cars used it. Kind of boring.

I hope they'll be a British Championship rank.

Pete,

above all if we think a moment Jim Clark was killed there in the Lotus 48 FVA one year later.

Roberto,

I just looked at the collision boxes for the various mods.

The original gpl.exe used the same size collision boxes for all cars.  This has never changed so even today when GEM+ builds the gplc67.exe, it still uses the original collision boxes too.

When Bruce and GPLEA produced their smaller versions of the Braby, their models no longer matched the collision boxes.

The '65 mod is the first that started changing the collision box sizes and every mod since, including the F2s, has done so too.

And BTW, Bruce still has his websites at
http://brucesstuff.speedgeezers.net/ (Old stuff)
and
http://www.bruces-st...er.co.uk/  (New stuff)

Bruce, the Speedgeezers old stuff link from your new stuff page has changed with the "com" simply changing to a "net".

Thanks a lot Lee for clearing my doubts,
I never knew that collision box size was adapted to car starting from '65 mod.

This is somewhat a great surprise to me.

This is lovely stuff!  That "radial-valved" BMW engine is something else entirely:

I did the collision boxes for the Sports Cars and have done the preliminary sizing for the upcoming CanAm mod.  It's really not much fun as it requires reading the sizes of each car's .3DO, then applying those dimensions to the 11 collision boxes, then testing them by ramming the car into the armco until it looks right.   :wall:

But it only has to be done once.

The open wheel car collision boxes are pretty much aligned one behind each other like a long cigar to match the body shape (the wheels/tires have their own collision boxes).  For the closed wheel cars such as the Sports Cars, I realigned the boxes to better match the shape with a hard top above the body.

Glad you appreciate this engine. Here at Albi . At that end of season race, Gerard "Jabby" Crombac journalist said : " a fine piece of machinery, but underpowered"

Michel and I had some good discussions about this engine when doing the mod.  When I first saw photos of the engine, I thought it was a V8, but it was really an inline 4 cylinder engine with a unique head.  The head has four valves per cylinder, two intake and two exhaust over a hemispheric chamber.  Each intake valve was fed by its own carburetor (fuel injection in the F2 version) so there were 8 carbs in the normally aspirated version!  Also, each exhaust valve feeds into its own exhaust pipe which are eventually combined into two exhausts.

A very complex system whose drawbacks were extra weight and reliability.

Cheers Bob, I'll try and change that. I've actually lost a lot of my stuff and tyhe only place I can find it is online so not being able to access the site was upsetting.

Funning thing about the colision box. I am not sure if I changed it, but when I made the car smaller and moved all the suspension around I found the wheels were moving before the bump/kerb was reached. This upset me a bit so I changed a lot of invisible boxes so the wheels again moved correctly. This did not seem to effect the collision box so my car was the same as the rest.

I still get GPL running every so often, I might even move it all over to my new PC (Gaming Laptop). Off to bed now.

It’s great to hear from you Bruce and I'm sorry to learn that you’ve had so much trouble with your health.

As the original car modder, we all owe you a huge debt of gratitude.  You really kick-started the whole car-modding revolution and, without you, there may never have been an F2 mod.  Despite the more advanced sims available, I still drive GPL regularly and get immense enjoyment from it.  But, without the mass of extra content released by the community, I seriously doubt whether I would be doing so.  So hats off to you (and all the other modders).

Whilst I loved your Brabham and Lotus, the Honda was my favourite.  After having to put up with the Eagle clone, seeing the ‘real’ Honda (always a striking looking car) in the game, was just brilliant.  I also seem to remember that someone made an original ‘F2’ mod using your Brabham.  It was just a collection of skins and a driver.ini if I recall, but good fun nonetheless.

You really must get GPL installed on your gaming laptop and give the F2 mod a go.  It’s an absolute blast and, as you know only too well how difficult modding GPL is, I'm sure you’ll fully appreciate the craftsmanship of the team.

OK guys....

I am still brand new to GPL, and still struggling to drive original 67 default cars the around the track.

But I tried these 67F2 cars today, and all I can say is WOW!!!! Holy :::crap::: these cars are fun as hell to drive! More fun the default 67s! I immediately noticed how they're slightly easier to drive than the original F1 67s and the sliding....oh boy the sliding...Just phenomenally fun! Driving these cars is reminding me of playing one of my favorite arcade racing games, Ridge Racer! Yeah, yeah, I know, these aren't arcade physics in the least, but the powersliding sure does remind me of RR, Daytona USA, OutRun 2.

What I'm curious about is, with enough practice, were these cars designed to be driven sort of like rally cars and be drifted around the track Tokyo Drift style....and still be fast? I'm a HUGE fan of drifting so this appears to be right up my alley!  :clap2:

Finally, I have a question... I noticed that when using this mod, only two tracks are available before the track....Silverstone and I forgot the other one. But anyway what do I need to do to be able to select all the tracks I have using this mod and will I be able to race against the AI if I do?

Thanks again :)

Well, the territories of arcade and sim have blurred a bit over the years. It's not so clear-cut anymore (depending on the games involved).

After driving it a bit, noted that the physics in GT5 are mostly better than GPL's these days (at least in the slower street cars, where the coders have had actual input by owners of these vehicles), provided driving aids are off and lower-grip tyres used at least. Not that surprising though, with a decade of development behind it.

But yeah, since the 65 Mod at the latest, we've known that it's not only high powered F1 cars that provide the fun in driving. It's all about 'feel' and being able to balance. (I've had a ball this year in Formula Ford and Formula Vee cars and these have even less power!  ;)   )

Yes you can be fast drifting but someone with the same basespeed as you will always be faster not drifting ;)

Mech, I wonder if he's referring to 'going sideways' Starsky and Hutch-style as 'drifting' (which *is* usally slower) or 'four-wheel drifting' (like 60's formula cars tended to do, which was usually faster for those kinds of cars).\

Don't know but wish him good luck with that, most of the time my drifts end up with the tail hanging out (or hanging in a tree  :D ) and not in a four wheel drift.
