Hi everyone (again):

Firstly, does anyone know how to run a successful GPL racing league? I'm new to GPL and I am also interested in creating one.

Secondly, which car should I use for 1966 mod races?

  • Brabham BT11 (2.5L Climax)
  • Brabham BT19
  • Brabham BT11 (BRM engine)
  • Honda RA273
  • Lotus 43

Cheers,

Perhaps a good way is to first join an existing league and volunteer to do some of the administrative tasks to get some experience. But I suppose one could minimally run a league simply by choosing the hosting method (direct connect/vroc/igor), fps (i.e. 60fpsv2 or not), bandwidth settings in core.ini, server password, race schedule, rules etc.. and communicating the necessary info to league members. Then just host the race, save the server replay and use gpl replay analyzer to generate race results which you can post on your league forum/website. A steep learning curve if you start from scratch.

Hi ThunderKiller96,

As brr says it can be quite a task to start from scratch, especially when there are a few well-established leagues already.

I'm on the admin team at UKGPL (http://www.ukgpl.com) and we're always looking out for new members who can help. We race three nights a week with a variety of mods, post in the forums there or send me a PM if you are interested.

Well basically I'd say you need the following;
1) A server to host the races, if you have a good internet connection you could host them yourself
2) A forum to post up results and chat
3) An IGOR/VROC chatroom to meet up before and after the events

The rest is down to you ie advertising the league, type of races/mods, whether you will run championships or one off events, what rules (if any) you will use.
In our league we have a database system that imports GPLRA reports and runs championship tables so things are greatly simplified.
Do or do not... there is no try

Hi ThunderKiller96,

nice that you are interested in setting up a GPL league.
I am admin of http://www.gplracer.eu and you are welcome to have a look around our site and forum. You might get some ideas there.

As the number of people who race GPL online in leagues has declined over the years, the remaining drivers are usually already in the small number of leagues that have survived.
Therefore I would first check if there is an active GPL league in your timezone (where do you come from?).
You can get a good overview of active leagues at the GPLrank site: http://gpllinks.org/
Because it might be difficult to set up an additional league, if there is already a well established one in your timezone.

Good luck!
Stefan

I'd recommend to take a small car first, because although the low speed it has better handling (in the least to me).
And if you get better, you can take cars as Lotus 43 and Honda RA273. But it all actually depends on your driving style. Try them all out and think about which one suits you the best.
Grand Prix Legends is a drug. And I'm an addict. Again.
