Thank you for those "accurate updates"!
However, it's "only a detail" but, shouldn't "we" update the "objects in mirrors" aswell, now that the suspension is higher?   :P   ;)

65 mod don't have objects in mirror :)
If you have probably is an add on made later.
Or they are taken from the 66 mod.

Good job ! Details for a non-specialist, but an important add-on for the majority of the GPL community !  :hat-tip:

I had the same problem Stefan.  You need to hit Ctrl & F5 on your keyboard, to refresh the page.  There was no intention to torment you. :dont_mention:

Ah, that did the trick :) Now I can see ,,,,direct link,,,,
Thx!

Stefan be a kind soul and please remove the direct link to my files.
If everybody puts direct links to my sites content i just as easily could post all my stuff here and get rid of my site..

I have to say that I disagree with the initial suggestion that the 65 Mod cars look too low and that the high ride height are more realistic. The before and after Brabham shots looked as if the 'after' are was on full-rebound. Compare with the picture of the Great Jim.

Agreed. Looking at real-life photos of '65 cars, the original models seem fine to me, and the new models seem to be far too high. I'm sure the original '65 mod makers studied plenty of images as well, so I'm confident they knew what they were doing. I tried installing the files just to see what it looked like in GPL, but I didn't like what I saw so I reverted back to the originals. I guess in the end it's down to personal preference.

Edit: I should point out that I agree partially with maddog's original point. The GPL setup screens always show 2.5 inches as the lower limit for ride height, and historically that is too low for the '65 cars. However, that figure is fixed by GPL's user interface and can't be changed for each mod. If you're a '65 mod driver and you care about complete accuracy, you should set your ride height upwards to a more realistic level.

Having said that, it looks as though the mod authors didn't worry about the setup screen when they modelled the cars, they just made them look like the photos from 1965. So although your setup screen may say that your ride height is 2.5 inches, the GPL models are actually quite a bit higher than that, and for me they look realistic. That's why I haven't changed them.

Slow to notice this.  GPL was released using a minimum ride height of 2/12inches - 3.8cm.  In reality, the originals ran only as low as they dared - 5 to 6 inches has been mentioned, on smoother tracks.  But because our GPL tracks are often smooth, and 'chassis' are rigid, they were made to hug the ground idealistically, rather than realistically. :dont_mention:

Interestingly, the Ai were made to ride higher.  This suggests the original programmers were aware of the abberation they'd created.  Perhaps the Ai fix came late in development, and the game physics had already been set.

In 1965, cars ran on average, slightly higher than in 67.  Our modeling genius MECH, was able to do, what the game manufacturers failed to do, and added bump stops to the 65 models, without affecting their physics.  In doing so, it was discovered the Ai's 'bumpstops' are hardcoded, and they remain higher than the player car's, when adding MECH's patch.  So a compromise was made - the Player's were left slightly low, while the Ai become slightly high.  MECH chose to illustrate the Ai's new height, to clearly show what the patch does, to the cars.

I see. It's always interesting to find out some of the background information about mods, and to find out what the makers were thinking about when they were creating them. Thanks maddog.

Martin,

if you think the ride height was to low in the ori 65 carset, there is a solution that don 't need any tweak.

You just install the 60fpsaiv1 patch, and all the  65 cars will have it higher, though still bearable to look at them. And for once, you 'll take advantage of the 60 fps.Just a little bit of ai tweak, like the D Long Speed adjustment coef, and that 's all.

It's a patch to raise the body; nothing more nothing less.
Use it if you think it's right this way and not if you disagree.
I only made the patch because i was asked to do so.

I'm certainly not going to argue about a car driving a couple of inches higher or lower, it is all in the eye of the beholder.

If you don't use the patch then i advise you to apply the steering wheel patch(you should be able to find it here somewhere) when driving online frequently because it fixes a skin mapping flaw of the 65mod.

Again use at own risk and will. It's a free world..enjoy it while it lasts.
