Hi guys!

Spent an afternoon in the shed today and made a couple of quick clips. Enjoy!

Thanks Paddy! These are my '70s driving boots, I have them in brown/white for that '60s look!

You've built an amazing rig!

When you get a chance, can you post a video featuring your Bodnar wheel?  I'd like to see what that looks like in action.

  Great stuff Remco!

  Cheers,

  Dave

Good news! The electronics for the FF wheel have finally arrived!

Now I'm just waiting on the wheel adapter for it, silly me for thinking that was included in the price

I think I've also solved the problem of attaching the steering rod to the motor axle, that was a bit of a puzzle.
If that works then that was definitely the last hurdle and the P34 could be operational in weeks!

Great news!

The Leo wheel is up and running and it is beyond words. Just... so incredibly powerful, quick and precise, it's incredible.
I already knew it was powerful and quick, but now that I've got one in my own rig I'm starting to understand just how epic it really is.

Niels gave me some of his latest rFactor GT cars to get the most out of the wheel, they have the best physics (un)available, including a special FF plugin and certain values optimised for this wheel. Insane! I was driving around a cool new Zandvoort for rFactor. Cresting Scheivlak I took my hand off the wheel to shift, hit a kerb and BAM! - I was in the wall.
It pulled the wheel right out of my hands, something unheard of in any commercial wheel.

iRacing has messed up damping, I can only use 3.0 FF and some damping through the wheel's driver. FF is a bit notchy, bumps are very pronounced.
As a test, I put the Skippy in the wall at the Glen and the ensuing crash was almost painful, much more violent than I was prepared for!

Can you legally marry a Leo wheel?

I haven't tried GPL yet, I don't really drive it anymore.

Here are some videos. I threw in a bonus showing a rather nasty crash

remco, seeing your last few videos i was wondering - are you sitting at an angle to your screen or is this done on purpose? your mirrors looks skewed. oh and that wheel looks awesome. at that point where you impacted and it rotates like mad i was thinking thank god he let go of it. otherwise it would have been bye bye wrists :o

No, it's the camera that's at an acute angle and somehow it creates huge deformation on the left of the screen. That left front looks like it's off of a 2CV! If you check the POV picture of the Skippy below you'll see it's fine from where I'm sitting

Well, I say fine but it's bloody great in fact. Last night I participated in the first real races since introducing the screen and wheel and I was singing for joy hehehe. Skippy at Jefferson Reversed, very cool!
By the end of the first race I started to notice my armpits (TMI I know), that's never happened before except in 24H races!

It's true, crashing can become dangerous now. Doubt it will break anything but you can certainly sprain a wrist if it catches you out!
I might have to turn it up still, a 20min Skippy race should probably hurt more than 12min Go-karting, right?

I haven't been this excited to race in a long time.  :yeah:

I got a new car from Niels today, the 1976 McLaren M23.
Fantastic car, it was a close call between the P34 and the M23 when I decided on my cockpit project three years ago.

And here's the video. Don't get much better than this

Nice update, Remco.  I ended up re-reading the entire thread and a very enjoyable read it is.  You told the story very well.

I've toyed with the idea of doing my own cockpit as a long term project.  Trouble is, I'm very tall and it would probably end up looking like an old Indy roadster to make something that I could fit into.

Great project.  Your work is first class.  Thank you for sharing it with us.
