In the past five years i've come to realise just how much music is out there to be explored. There are literally millions of artists to choose from and i know i'll never listen to them all but i'd like to sample a good percentage of them so i started collecting and at this moment in time i've listened to 895 album artists totalling 3910 albums.
Me thinks this is going to be a life long mission. Is anyone else out there on a similar mission?

They are by far my favourite band ever. I also like artist as Vangelis or Kraftwerk, but also a good string orchestra gives me shivers!
I also make music myself, but it's pure for fun. Totally no ambition.

I collect everything from the Ramones. I also like "newer" bands wich sound like the Ramones. Example: Riverdales, Huntingtons, etc.
From the 80's I like Bad Religion, Social Distortion, Offspring, Adolescents + Dead Kennedys
These Bands sound like "very easy music", but it's really hard to play on my own guitar at this speed.

I agree Avenged Sevenfold are very good. I have all their stuff and have seen them live once. I also have Ramones, Offspring, Bad Religion. I have started appreciating pop now too so have some Pet Shop Boys and will be going to see Simple Minds this summer.
I have very little electronica so far so i need to get some more stuff by the likes of Vangelis, Kraftwerk and Jean Michel Jarre
My collection has increased to 904 artists totalling 3936 albums this weekend

I really enjoy listening to new music. Whenever i listen to something for the first time i listen out for tracks i really like and put that track in my favourites playlist. Since i started doing this i've added 620 tracks to my favourites plalist from 54004 tracks. Something tells me i'm hard to please

I too have been on a lifelong music mission and it's nowhere near finished yet.
Making great life affirming discoveries get's more difficult but it's still sweet when it happens.
I'm mainly a fan of obscure 60's/70's psychedelia/krautrock/soundtrack/Jazz
from all over the world.
Here's what I'm listening to at the moment.
1, Les Dunes d'Ostende - Francois De Roubaix
2, Mother Nature, Father Earth - The Music Machine
3, E Muzik - NEU!
4, Les Garde Volent - Jean-Claude Vannier
5, Slip Inside This House - The Thirteenth Floor Elevators
6, Psalter - Faust
7, Paperhouse - Can
8, Journey In Satchidanada - Alice Coltrane
9, Ladyfriend - The Byrds
10, Afro Harping - Dorothy Ashby
11, Expecting - Minnie Ripperton
12, The Edge - David McCallum
13, 13(Death March) - Jimmy Smith
14, Kyrie Elesion - The Electric Prunes
15, Zig Zag Wanderer -Captain Beefheart
If any of these float your boat my work is done, some of my best discoveries have been through tips from friends.
As for contemporary music there is a band called Agratron who I like very much, they release their first album later this year.

Epic drum fill of Beast and the Harlot:
This is the drum fill, played with Guitar Hero Smash Hits on the hardest level:
But still, I do prefer the (Hard) Rock of the 1970's, 1980's and some 1990's.
My favorite artist is Van Halen.
Good reason: The guitarist, Eddie Van Halen, is one of the greatest guitarist ever, and he was born in holland. And i'm from holland!
This solo is mind-blowing (Eruption):

And I do like Metallica very much, too.

Stu i have an uncle and cousin who are serious music fans and my collection is nothing compared to them who have 20,000 albums between them and many more they've downloaded and haven't yet bought on hard copy yet.
Although i love all music rock and metal is where my heart really lies. I agree The Rev was a very talented drummer Yannick and Eddie Van Halen is a great guitarist who unfortunately lost the plot a little not so long ago but i'm looking forward to hearing the new Van Halen album with David Lee Roth back in the band.
I'll always be a fan of the big four of thrash (Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica and Slayer). I see they are on the bill at Sonisphere this year which should make for an amazing gig.
I refuse to be left behind the times and i really don't want to say something like "thats music, its just noise! When i was a lad....."
