This tool let's you add fog settings to a track.ini
You can switch the fog on or off and apply several settings.

Some features:
1. it saves a backup of the changed trackxx.ini to trackxx.cpy
2. it saves the last used setting so you can test gradual changes.
3. You can choose from the tested values Jim Pearson found while trying out the fog feature.
4. If a track.ini already has fog settings it will change them (if the values match the exact [ Fog ] format)
5. You can alter the density with use of the slider in the Light/Dark Setting section
6. You can change the fog color by changing the Red, Green or Blue color(s)

Note: the density slider has a range of of 1 to 100 = 0.01 to 1.0
It was easier to use this range and i don't think it will have much use to apply higher values
:think:

Note2: Jim Pearson used a density of 0.01 (which is the slider set a 1, the minimum)
Using higher values probably only have use on wet tracks..

Download at my website under...yep downloads...GPLFog tool

Thx to Jim Pearson for posting some useful fog settings :thumbup:

P.S. Again it's a simple tool. Nothing fancy just coded in vb.
For me it'l do and i hope for you too :)

Good work MECH,
I already have fog applied to several tracks:
Rouen Winter.
Cerne's Wood (when using the winter graphics).
Snowitude.
One or two others that I can't remember right now, but I intend to try fog with Hockenheim67 where the original tree colour has a blueish hue, I think it will look great.

I have a question though.  If the fog settings are put into the track.ini the sky and horizon are no longer visible, but in your screen shots they are still there. Is this a new development?

I don't know which screenshots you are referring to but i didn't post any ;)

But the amount of fog is depending on the density setting.
The predefined settings are base on Jim Pearsons tested settings for morning, evening etc.. and use a 0.01 setting which is about the lowest you can get.
Upping the value will make the fog more dense. Right now i limited the slider to 100 which is 1.0.
(so basically if you selected a predefined setting you will get a density 0.01. If you want a more dense fog you should change the light/dark setting by moving the slider to the right)
But reading Nigels readme of the rasterizers again made me reconsider that max value :think:
I think i need to increase that value to 10.0 to have the fog as dense that it covers the track as well..

You are using the predefined settings.
Try using the slider for the density ;)

I still have to wait 4 or 5 hours to check my settings, but as I recall I used at least 3.0 density for Le Mans Sarthe.

Thx for the info :thumbup:

I'll change the max value so the highest setting possible will be 10.0 :)

Excellent!  I'm using a 3.5 at Bsarthe, and also using a 5.0 at Solitude, which seems high but it completely removes the treeline pop-up effect.  Fortunately, it looks like a nice spring or summer early morning fog.  But unfortunately, some tracks (like Spa) don't seem to work very well with fogging due to the sky backdrop being such an integral part of the view (including nearby hillsides, etc).  At Spa I had to use a 6.5 to keep it from looking flawed, but that also made it practically undriveable.

But at most tracks, even a small amount of fogging improves the appearance a lot.  Thanks for this tool - it makes experimenting with the fog settings a lot easier.

Sorry MECH,
You didn't post scrrenshots, I was referring to mouse's screenshots in post #3.
I use these settings for Cerne and Rouen winter
[ fog ]
type = 1
density = 5.0
fog_r = 150
fog_g = 175
fog_b = 200
