so i have finally managed to finish this one off. i've started on it in may 2009 as you can see in this thread. thanks to the beautiful texture remco provided i had the final piece missing to complete this puzzle. however i had to complete a few other puzzles first before getting my attention focussed on this bella again (think sportscars).

so without further ado, attached is a big *** zip including several versions of the same car. wait, what versions?
16bit and 32bit for starters with sizes of 512x, 1024x for 16bit, and 512x, 1024x and some 2048x parts for 32bit. that should cover all bases. apologies for plonking all of them into one big file, but i just couldn't be bothered to do 6 different zips for what is essentially just a single car.

the main files are in the "1024" folders of either 16bit or 32bit versions. these are to be copied into your Lwing ferrari folder first. any other files in the folders 512 or 2048 (for 32bit only) are to be copied over them (replacing the 1024 files) should you want to do that. i threw in the 512x files just in case and i have to admit i tried them and they are pretty good - if i may say so. i was actually rather surprised by the 16bit 512x look in game - i didn't expect them to turn out that well. that aside i would still stick with the 2048x 32bit files - i always do - just because. but they require a certain amount of oomph and V2 rasterizers - yea i kept that line in the readme, again.

worth noting:
i have NOT tested how this all will work when you plonk these files into the folders for the other 2 wing variations of the '69 ferrari. i expect it to produce some considerable mayhem, missing wings, messed up polygons or what have you - maybe even CTD. so please, these files are only intended for the LWING car!! (if you disregard this note and try anyway, please post screenies. :D)

if you want to further pimp your car, grab the arms from thomas laechele's lotus update here, rename them to ferarms.mip and copy them into the ferrari folder - that's what i did. might as well copy the hands, too. as for the tyre treads - there is an update around here somewhere with darker treads - you might want to use that. i am currently using treads from an F2 macca tommie made ;) as i just couldn't be bothered to work on some treads to go with the rims this weekend. i wanted this car off my chest.

something you may note:
the needles for oil and water temperature are somewhat off-ish. i can't tweak the physics file or update it to match the actual range - so that is best left to those select few who can. within a certain range the needles are actually showing the correct values ;) - the issue here is that the scale is logarhytmic, so will never be 100% accurate all the way anyway. you may also note that the windscreen is moving during heavy turning and accelerating / braking - that's due to the shoddy build quality of racecars in the sixties and has nothing to do with the way i rebuilt the cockpit. or maybe it does - whatever. just thought i'd put that out. what i also didn't quite manage is to get the gear lever to slot in exactly fitting the polished grate (and get rid of that overt specularity on top of it) - i also couldn't find anyone able to tell me how it could be done. i still think it should be possible, but damned if i know.

so anyway, go grab the file and please read the readme, yeah? i spent some time on it :D
thank you

time to move on to some other projects... anyone around here with pictures (references) of a lola t70 chassis (MK3 preferably)? i mean from a restoration sort of? not a replica - don't care for those. it's for "another" project entirely, linkage to model building thread to commence some time when i have enough refs to base my build on...

and now some pics to while away the time while downloading..

bloody hell!!
didn't i say at the bottom of the readme that i felt i missed something? goes to show i actually did. lol

and yes, of course it's not meant for the chappy folder. grrraaaaawww, :punish: imma have to update the readme and reup the file... i just remember i actually changed the folders of the previous readme, but in the rush to get this thing out, i ignored the text going with that line. i just hope there's no other slip-up in the readme elsewhere?

smoggy,
it's my fav, too! but the braby comes in a nice and solid second. i wonder what happened to jumi's '69 braby update? mate, your turn now :P

thousands thanks for this update, Roman !

I tested the 32 bits 1024 + 2048 parts version, in 1920 X 1440, with Thomas Lachaele arms,60fpsaiV1.

D3D : on the Monaco pit lane full AIs, 47 fps, and jumping in, then driving, it goes to a steady 60 fps.

OGL : same test, 60 fps all the way.

OGL fps > D3D fps with N Vidia 266.99 latest drivers, as we know

if I can express an opinion, I think only people with big screens or VP will see the differences between 2048 and 512 and after a careful inspection of the cockpit.

Your Add On urge me to get this VP soon !

Sky. You will see the same reference to the 2D Chappy in the Ford GT Mk2 update :)

I'd like to know how many people actually placed their the Mk2 updates, in the 2D folder

well nobody has complained yet and you're the first one to point it out (actually philo was, but you were the first for the mk2), too. so the award for diligently reading through the readmes goes to you! :D. seriously though, good spotting. i've read over it several times. but in the same way i read over everything i write, i know what's coming, so i auto-tick it off. i would actually need someone else to proofread my stuff whether it makes sense or not. i'm good at that for other people, but obviously not for my own stuff. oh well.
but with the path being correct and all i would expect that most people operate in a similar fashion to me. scan for the important bits (ie paths, filenames) and ignore the rest. - as long as it works <rolls eyes> (especially after pointing explicitly at that damn thing. ah well, good judgement comes from experience. experience comes from bad judgement... ;)

cor blimey :hb: the MK2 as well? maybe i should really give up on these readme things, lol. i keep copying the one from the last release and replace parts of the texts - far easier than rewriting the whole thing, though error prone as it turns out. promise it won't happen again - least i hope it won't :P for the 2048' mk2 and then finally that load of ferrari stuff i still haven't gotten around to package.

:muttley:

michel,
i can't say how well or not it runs with D3D - after all this cockpit has less polygons than the default '69 fez, so it should maybe be a bit better regarding performance. but alas i'm using OGL v2, i have never noticed. i also didn't notice a drop in performance back when i was still running my ati cards with OGL v2 (now running nvidias). can't speak for D3D (v2) as i haven't run that in long time :( - got me the flashy menues back then after i did something stupid driverwise...
also you will see a bit of a change in the textures, much crisper, if you remove the subimages and keep only the biggest images. at this time, you will not see much of a change between 1024 and 2048, but set subimages to 0 and you will see a change. the only issue you will have is some sparkling in the areas of the dashboard where the gauge scales are close (like on the tacho). also for testing i'm using a FOV of 88° to get more of the cockpit in my sights. with the default 78° FOV you'll see clearer markings. but in order to change that you need papybmp (for the 32bit stuff) - the subimages thing that is, not the fov apparently.

go for the VP!! i will have to go triple screen then for total immersion

hey tommie if these darker treads match the colour / brightness levels of your m4 macca f2 treads, then they should be perfect as i've matched my sidewall to those treads :).
that aside i've always wanted to give van gossum's (?) treads a try but it's a matter of too many files and not enough time to actually try them out. i've also not tried out the treads thomas' has included in his lotus and eagle updates.

Yes they're spot on :) . The tread itself is the same as the original, it's only been darkened and more contrast added to give them a more realistic appearance and to make it fit with the sidewall.

It's actually one of the first addons I ever made  :bananapowerslide: .

Tommie.
