In perusing the track database I noticed several "rally" tracks, including a couple listed as "rally - one lap".  Looking at the maps I assume the rally designation is applied to any tight twisty track?  (By this definition Machwerk, or even Nurburgring, could be classified as such.)  But what is the "one lap" designation?  The track maps look continuous; can you only run one lap?  How does that work?

Race them and you will see. ;)

In GPL a track has to be built continous. It is technically not possible (well at least until today :D ) to build a rally track that just goes from A to B.

They are indeed only one lap runs. The start and finish line is basicaly the same as a normal track, as in you finish a lap when you cross it for the second time only the track is usually seperated by a barrier and if you continue you just hit a dead end. The illusion works well and most of them are a blast and would suit the Stratos perfectly. As Stefan said, have a go on one of them, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Quite well.  Almost as prolific a track builder as Sergio Loro.

Well, I tried to search for this story, and so far, maybe its early yet, it has not been posted that the one lap tracks were part of the GPL rally series that ran two years. But I did not participate, just followed it a bit. I do recall a participation prize was a Lancia Stratos, and maybe at the time this was sort of a breakthrough mod. Anyway, contestants had a limited time to download, run, and upload the track before their times were posted. The one lap tracks were made for these events, and were originally available only to contestants, then were later released.

I wasn't aware of that.  Thanks for another bit of GPL history.

He's still very much around - making some nice dirt type mods for rFactor.

Yes the Rally ran for 2 seasons with only the paticipants allowed to unlock the tracks.  The passwords were published after the event.  If i remember correctly you had a week for each track to set your fastest lap.

If you want to particiapte in the rally retrospectively then I created these.....

They allow you to run each track and enter your times - wothout knowing how the other competitors are doing.  Your results are then merged in with the original competitors.  Part of the fun of competing was that you had no idea how your time for this week's track would measure up.  Just fill in the yellow boxes.

Can't remember if the season 2 xls was 100% ok - there were discrepancies in the stage times I had.

Thanks for this webfoot. I have times for all of them because I have a total rank  :yeah:

I was wondering how to work out which tracks were what stage but if you go to the track database and do an advanced search for Rally tracks it is easy to work out, obviously the earlier release dates are from the first season.

I wonder if we could get a season 3 happening

Thanks again webfoot  :hat-tip:  I have entered all of my times for the first season and I need to give your spreadsheet a big wrap, it calculates what position you would have finished the stage in and what your overall position would have been after each stage.

If you want a bit of fun just download it and start driving, I am now going to try and improve my position as a bit of a personal challenge.

Edit: I just put the results in for season 2 and would have finished 5secs behind webfoot   The season 2 spreadsheet doesn't track the positions properly in the top left corner but seems to work fine in the main list.
