LOL!  I had it in my head that you started with another mod and then adapted the physics to this car.  It just doesn't "feel" like anything else I've driven lately.

When I got this carset I was driving an unfamiliar car on unfamiliar tracks, and was spinning everywhere. Then went with a max understeer setup just to get some windshield time in.  It is now back to the default springs and I have been cutting down on the clutches also.  This is a very easy to drive and smooth handling car, in an oversteeery kind of way.

Does it have working aero?  As in can you draft with it?  I haven't been able to try yet.  Also, does the spoiler work? The car felt pretty good at Brno49, but it really likes Clermont-Ferrand.  The AI are crazy fast at Monacane too.

Stefan and Wolfgang, thanks for posting the updated sound file.    :clap2:  I don't want to knock the efforts of the mod builders, but the new version captures that distinctive "growl" of the Stratos' exhaust really well. Driving the mod now sounds exactly like I'm back in my friends car, the one in my avatar pic. Great work!

you lucky b.... you actually have a friend who owns a stratos??? well lucky you. the group b version would be the be-all-end-all mod though :D

oh any chance for a few pics taken around the cockpit? just saying, highres dashboard, cough cough :D

/edit
speaking of which, i tried to do some updates to the alitalia stratos, so i extracted the relevant .mips and replaced them with some of my own - funny they didn't show up in game. what am i missing? the alitalia is in the ferrari slot, i think. what to do?

btw sterling mod! originally i didn't notice a change in behaviour.. i think it might have to do with me in an unfamiliar car on unfamiliar roads - like mikl said... but i felt it was understeering for my (currently limited to kbd again) driving style. - i'm lacking the e-brake / handbrake here ;)

It's very rare to find an original Stratos these days, my friends' is a replica, known by the name "Corse". In its defence though, Stratos kits are more accurate than just about any other replicas in the world. Why? Well, when Lancia stopped building the Stratos in the 70's, they wanted to move the machinery out quickly so they could start making some money on a more down-to-earth car, to get themselves out of financial trouble. So they sold off the Stratos production line to local manufacturers, and allowed them to start making spares and even replicas. So most of the replica Stratos kits you see today are actually based on the original Lancia designs. In fact, Lancia go so far as to recommend parts from some of the kits as "genuine replacement parts" if you have a prang in a real Stratos.

My friends' car (and most of them in the Stratos Enthusiasts Club) use a 2L V-6 Lancia engine, some of them going for the 24-valve "Cloverleaf" type. But most of the "character" of the Stratos distinctive exhaust note comes from the arrangement of the pipes and silencer boxes, and these are the same on the replicas as they are on the real cars, so they sound very impressive!

I haven't seen my friend for some time - we used to work at the same company, but no longer - I'll see what I can do about getting in touch and maybe getting some pics.

I don't think I've ever seen a group B version of a Stratos, but there was a group 5 (prototype sports and touring cars) version. There's a replica of that too which was under development a couple of years ago (see attached pics). It had a V-6 twin-turbo Alfa Romeo engine (3L I think).

It was only a unfortunate accident that the newer sound wasn't released with the Stratos Mod pack. I know that Paul himself has the new sound in his own installation. This is something that can happen if You have to manage so much files.

Of course the sound is most important to me personaly , but this little accident should not be a reason to talk less about the great
physics and the mod at whole.

But,thx Saiph for Your comment as someone who has been in a real Stratos cockpit ! That's the reason why I spend so much time to make credible sounds for the old "single-soundfile-system" of GPL. For PPL who know
how it sounds or those who have the right feeling to judge about it. For stuff like this wonderful mods of GPL. I promise You'll get more. Wait for the upcoming great
GT Sportscar Mod and  also of the "old" mods including the 67 default GPL cars.

Thx a lot,

Wolfgang.

paul,

thanks that worked. i was just checking the files for their liveries and found the stratos with the alitalia one was in the ferrari slot. so i assumed all the mips would be there. but then there's loads of mips in the car files that aren't used. like the '67 ferrari dash, etc :D
in any case, i got my files to show up in game now. thanks alot

keith,

you're correct. it wasn't group b, it was group 4/5. the 037 was the first group b car of lancia - unless i got that wrong, too, in which case i rest my case and resign to being a hopeless with lancia history. anyway, after the topgear piece on lancia, i went looking for the replica they mentioned - found the manufacturer of those body panels and kitcars. i was put off though, by the top gear review of it's chassis. but then again, what does jezza know, i mean seriously... i love the guy, but he isn't the most subtle of people ;). 3l 24v alfa romeo v6 - now that is a beautiful engine - drop that into the stratos chassis... well i think that's what i remember off the stratos kit car. the chassis was based on some other car - i thought they would build a chassis based on the actual plans of the original stratos, like they did with the molds etc. but it wasn't to be. if i would put out money for a car like that, i would want it to be as close to the original as possible. unlike, for example, the ferrari 348 / 355 replicas based on the pontiac fiero (or whatever it was called - i had never heard of that car until i read about the appaling replicas using it as a basis).

well it'd be awesome if you could get in contact with your buddy - but no worries - i got enough on my plate as it is. and in any case, i could always try and contact the guys on the page you linked (thanks for that, too).

most unlikely in gpl - open end stages.. but i think there has been a project to do it for richard burns rally. i have lost track of that though, as i have moved back to gpl. i had started on just the layout with elevations. basically you were driving a wipeout style track, no scenery, just asphalt and walls on either side. that's back when i was experimenting with bob's trackbuilder. quite nifty tool

What are the odds on this mod making it into GPLRank?

Sky:  A more detailed interior would be a big help at Monaco, where I couldn't judge where the left side of the car is going through the chicane.

Yeah you have to remember you are not sitting in the middle of the car.

Generally one side of my car doesn't make it through the chicane at Monaco anyway, regardless of where I am sitting.
