Maybe the old GPL fix will work? That is turning sound hardware acceleration down.

If turning down the Hardware Acceleration doesn't help, possibly this can help you.

This is probably an on the motherboard chip.  On your desktop hit Start > Run > type in dxdiag and look in the sound tab for info.  It's possibly an AC97 chip or something similar and you can try newer or older drivers for it by Googling for the drivers.

Can you reduce the hardware acceleration?  You'll see that option in the sound tab too.

Yes, found that with dxdiag, reduced speed, tried diff. settings no change! Installing an older driver, would this give problem with games like GTR2, Shift etc...
Thanks..........Hez.

Im unable to see if you are using Win7.
Because in this OS MS has killed all HW sound acc.
And that means that its only if you can get the NR2003 OpenAL decoding to work (and have an OpenAL compat soundcard) that you can get HW acc back.
http://srmz.net/inde...?showtopic=4728

The much lousier SW acc in Win7 is called "mapping" in MSs´s euphemisms.
After I installed Win7 I was so negatively surpriced of my new MB´s integr sound quality that I bought one of the best gaming soundcards Auzentech X-Fi Forte 7.1. Just to get proper sound in NR2003/GTP.

The sound qualy was better than the MB sound. But not that much. And the reason is that MS killed the mentioned HW acc + EAC.
Even on an i7-720 you can hear how the leftside sound is influenced negatively of a rightside soundsource.
On good old Win98 or WXP this never happened.
Do you hear me MS?
