Hi Yogi,

thank you for your latest addons: 65banners, Shell-pillar and Grandstand-topsign. Top quality again.

Plus I'm thrilled by your announcement concerning the Shell-signs and the camera-towers. I've been missing them for more than 10 years. (Collected all the necessary historical info but have absolutely no idea how to edit them myself.) For sure your work on both of them will bring "our" ring
another 2 steps closer to perfection.

And great to see that every time someone asks for a Nürburgring object you come up with a w.i.p. or at least a planned project. This encourages me to ask whether parts of my own wish-list are also on yours, i.e.

   1. Dunlop-bridge at Kottenborn

   2. Old pre-66 Conti-tower

   3. Some signs at bridges (Poststrasse, Antoniusbuche) and exits (Südschleife, Breidscheid, Steilstrecke)

   4. Some 150.000 additional spectators along the track.......

Any plans so far?

Gordon

P.S.: I pm'ed you.

Hi Gordon,

by following your wish list, this is in the works.

Point1:

Unfortunately I have only a few bad images from the Dunlop Bridge.
But the question is how long was the Dunlop Bridge there by Kottenborn? Posted Image
I suspect that the Dunlop Bridge was demolished in the early sixties.
Maybe you, or someone knows more.
If it is so, then was the Dunlop Bridge only interesting for 50ties Mods.

Point 2:

At the 1965 GP the new Conti Tower was a shell of a building (see the 1965 GP Video),
this one is by me under contruction.

If the older Tower (the Conti Tower from the fifties up to 1964) is required,
I will be happy to build it (only interesting for 50ties Mods).

Point 3:

Several Signs are ready.
Poststr.Sign with new Poststr.Bridge done ( you mean this?)Posted Image
Posted Image

Direction Sign before Sudkehre done,
Entry Sign for Sudschleife, Nordschleife done,

Posted ImagePosted Image

Direction Arrow sign and Einbahnstr.-sign at Steilstrecke done...
Several traffic-signs are under contruction.

Point 4:

Not much done.
Collected photos from the sixties, spectators, cars, camping-trailers and camping tents.
Reworked some photos in textures.
I think point 4 is a important point, but it´s much work.Posted Image

Hi Yogi,

your answer is much more than I expected - you're the man! :yeah:

1. Dunlop-bridge

A few bad images is quite a lot as there seems to be nothing on the net. I can offer you some colour-pics from 1962 once they are needeed.

An experienced Ring-photographer told me that the bridge had been demolished in the mid 60ies. Another expert guessed that it vanished in 1970. I tend to think that it was gone by 1969 because the bridge has never been mentioned in conjunction with Mitter's fatal accident which happened just at km 4.9. On the other hand the bridge is still mentioned in Hubert Hahne's book "Schnell um den Nürburgring" from 1968 and on the Ring-map in the later editions of Richard von Frankenberg's book "Der Nürburgring". Also it was needed to provide access to the spectator-area at Flugplatz from the newly-built parking-area inside the Ring.

Isn't it strange that the bridge has always been out of the field of view of all the stationary and helicopter cameras? Wish we could get our hands on the TV-onboard-videos from the Frère/Günzler-Porsche in the periods 1000km-races or even better Castrol's out-takes from the Hahne-BMW-ride.... Will do some furter investigation into this subject.

2. Conti-tower

From memory I recalled that the new white Conti-tower had been ready for the 1966 ADAC-1000km-race. So I assumed that for the 65 GP it was still the old yellow tower. A lokk at the TV-coverage vid proved me being wrong and I'm glad to hear that you're doing a 1965 historically correct version with tower under construction.

3. Signs

Yes, that's the one - and together with your new bridge it will definitely please our so-called realism-police. Same for the direction-signs. :clap2:

Regarding signs: it has always bothered me that none of the x_sign-mips (Papy or add-on) is correct. Up to 1971 they had these signs in Germany for "no parking allowed" respectively "no stopping allowed":

Don't want to hi-jack your thread but this is my very first little piece of "editing" from years ago (probably smallest add-on ever) and maybe it'll do until you'll come up with a more improved version.(Mind you that the 3do will revert it by 180 degrees with the exception of Hatzenbach - it's way beyond my limited skills to correct this.)

4. Spectators

No surprise - this is an enormous amount of work. And you'll hardly get it close to perfection as long as you lack some
60's private photos of mine. ;) Still hope to discover myself some day within the crowds at Steilstreckenkurve (1967), Promenadenplatz (1968) and Breidscheid (1969) - for reasons of historical correctness, of course.... :) :D ;)

Many thanks in advance for every add-on that is to come from you.

Gordon

Here are reduced versions of Yogi's excellent Bosch and Mercedes buildings posted earlier in this thread. I don't think anyone has done this before, unless I missed it. These run fine on my laptop with a meager 64MB of video RAM although my .dat is now over 80MB

Bosch files are < 700kb each
Merc files are < 350kb each

I have just revisited the Nurburgring for a couple of laps for the first time since I re-found my passion for GPL again and was therefore delighted to come on here and find these excellent improvements to the track. It takes me so long to get around it that it is a welcome bonus to find these additions to give me an even better view as I am spinning around and around  ;)

Many thanks for the excellent work that has been put in to making these... I can assure you it is very, very much appreciated  :clap2:

Apart from those in this thread is there anything else I should grab to make the Ring even better? I tried the track database but the link to get the track there just takes me to a page for buying GPL from Sold Out Software......

Thanks again

Peter

You need to click on the SRMZ button and it will point you to the updates, this works with all tracks at the database. One update I would highly recommend is the KELLA update. If you can't find it just post here, somebody will point you in the right direction, also all of the Nurby Yogi updates are fantastic and fit in quite well with the KELLA one. :)

Hi Stefan,

even if you longer have seen nothing new from me, I am diligent.Posted Image
Have many new things in the works.
The important news is an update of the track signs
(direction signs, traffic signs, Esso-Km- signs, Km/m signs, etc.)
But also other new tracks objects I have in work.

Let you surprise, please find attached a few screenshots as appetizer.Posted Image

Great find!
I have never seen this before.
It seems to be part of an italian movie.
Does anyone know the name of this movie and when it was recorded? Looks like 60s /70s.

Edit: This seems to be another part of the movie:
Could be the 1970 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season: http://en.wikipedia....e_racing_season
