Thanks to John and Ginetto there is now a new download complete with/including their addons and using Bernd Nowaks track installer. You can get it here:

I like your cover too John, still wondering how you manage to do all that in illustrator :bravo:

Just like to add my appreciation for the Jacarepagua cover too. Hope it's not too controversial, but I like the evolutionary theme with the cars, it fits in with Darwins' recent anniversary.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that racing cars are one field where we can all pretty much agree that there has been evidence of Intelligent Design... :D

But that same evidence is lacking big time in the regulations department

'Practice'... :)

But seriously, it's not a very tricky cover - only took two days.

Here's the vector drawing.

I dug up nice profile photos of cars from each period and traced them, making flat sillhouettes. Took those and rotated them and skewed them by 30 degrees (so the verticals are still vertical), giving the illusion of 3-d

Took the original unrotated shapes and stretched them vertically, rotated them 30 degrees, but didn't skew them - those are the shadows cast on the 'road' surface.

Took a copy of the (3-d) cars, positioned them where the 'road' shadows intersect with the next car up, and clipped that with the next car up, to get the 'shadows cast on the other car' area.

And the car streaks are just a blend.

Here is a simplified solid-fill version of the drawing, showing the various shapes in obnoxious colors.

The ground shadows were filled with a gray-to-black gradient, and set to 'multiply' mode. The 'cast' shadows were set to light gray, multiply mode. And the streak blend is set to blend from the car shapes to fully-transparent versions of the shapes (in the same color).

Here's a simple, correctly colored version.

The final trick, that makes it all work, is to put a big gaussian blur effect on the ground shadows, and a lesser blur on the cast shadows. And then the streak blends are cranked up to 200-step blends, rather than the 5-step blends shown in the simple version. That's the thing that was killing me -- needed a large number of steps because of the high resolution of the full 12x poster, but it meant any change took 10-20 seconds to refresh. Possibly longer.

In retrospect, I probably could have 'frozen' the streak blend into a rasterized image, which would have greatly sped-up the process... but that was the last thing I did, and it was always just "one more little change.... wait 20 seconds.... no, that's not right!  One more little change..."

Also of some minor note: all the text, except for the tiny "programa oficial" bit, is all hand-drawn. Not a font. Because we care, you know!

As a Brazillian, I'd like to say thank you to all of you guys involved to this discover and graphic improvements.

It's a shame that brazillian goverment start to destroy 50% of Jacarepagua to build instalations for 2007-Panamerican Game. They also announced this year that all circuit area will be used to build new olympic centers for a possible Olympic Games at Rio in the future, and this news is very annoying for all brazillian racing comunity.

For all that, it's very good to see this track at GPL!

I also would like to say there is brazillian track builders working on new brazillian tracks. I hope we improve this list as soon as we can.

Thanks once more, and cheers!

Obrigado!

Thank you for this track! It is looking good and I was astonished how much fun it is to lap with the 65ers even it is quite modern looking. Very fluent driving. Oh, and the cover is great, too!

Anybody know why I have major portions of the track that are just oceans of black? It's like somebody dumped a tanker full of crude oil on a number of the corners and you can't tell where the track goes.

Thank you very much for making this available, but where is the starter? I've checked all views from all cars, can't find him, but I think I know what the problem is.

Using 3DOed, listing inserts, way down at the end is:

"starter",4990.000000,-8.000000,1.600000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000

Now assuming that the six numbers are XYZ coordinates and rotations, the first number, 4990, is way outside the range (-775 to +630 approximately) used for any other insert in the listing, save for:

"single6",4993.000000,-26.000000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000

So I'm guessing the starter is actually there, just 5km away from where he should be. Am I on the right track? How would one fix this? Thanks!

robwmack: no idea about your problem, try re-downloading and re-installing, maybe?

yes ,same problem here ,starter is about 4990 gpl units away from start/finish-line.

Editing insert file doesnt change its position ,but editing object position with 3doed program and then updating jaqare.3do file maybe should work?!

i tried but no luck with starter. :(

maybe track maker gurus can help ?
