Most usual are gaps (holes) in the GTK so be sure, when you are finish working on it, to zero all the gaps and eventually (seems better) leave a few units of overlapping like -1 or -10 or what ever just for the longitudinal gap; the other 2 gaps can stay 0, the orientation is mandatory to be 0; the lateral is not necessary but if is 0 is better thatn any other value.
With the GTK you make both the TRK and the track 3DO and both files can cause problems if have holes.

Another thing that cause freeze is the FB file with a too big sudden increase in the drawn distance; this cause GPL to load too many polygons in a too short time and can result in a freeze.

Thanks Ginetto.
So, you build the GTK on GTKmaker, and after that you add some negative longitudinal gap for each sector in GPLtrk?

Cheers, Marcos.

You make the proper shape in GTK maker, then fine tune it and place all the correct walls and the right sections to have the proper elevation changes, cambers and walls sequence.
Create the whole track in months, then, once you are done with all the work, you zero all the gaps and eventually add some units to every section to make them overlap each other.
Don't waste time in zeroing the gaps before you're almost done with your work, because at every change you will make new gaps.

Thanks. So, I did the final step at beginning, :)

I did a flat layout and I was trying to manage with the files necessary to compile it to test as is now (flat and boring) with GPL. But I couldn't dedicate enough time to it yet to discover which files I need, what they mean and how make them.

I thought to refine the layout at first, before adding cambers and elevations, but I don't know how's the convenient order to build the track.

Thanks again for your help!
Marcos.

I think I have read in some post (I think that by Ginetto) a recommended order of the steps for track building...

Going back to the question of freeze. Is there any way to fix existing tracks for freeze? Could I do it from compiled (downloadable) tracks or may I contact to authors to get original trk files?

Thanks, Marcos.

You need the build files if is a problem in the TRK or the 3DO.

You can do it yourself if the problem is in the Front Back view; use a tool called FB adjust to rewrite the values in the 3DO. :)

Hi!

I'm trying to compile my track, after making and tweaking my trk file. I found some help on the files I need to compile my track, but the trk23doz gives an error saying

Could not open .DAT
Could not open .N3D
Could not open .HSV
Could not open .TXT

Surely there are helps on the creation of those files, but I'm not founding them...

Thanks in advance, Marcos.

The only one you need of those is the .HSV file. The readme on the download page for trk23doz explains how to make this .HSV file which was a new feature of that compiler.

Now I have some "access violation adress" in trk23doz.exe. I guess it could be some wrong number of sections in the text files I included.

Cheers, Marcos.

EDIT: I COULD COMPILE IT

I could compile my track... but I still can't load it in GPL.

I added it to my season in GEM, and when I try to open it within GPL a "couldn't load a track" advertisement appears. Probably I have something wrong in the files of my tracks, but I can't figure out what...

Which files are essential to load a track in GPL? Does somebody have some clue to discover what is wrong with my track?

Thanks in advance, Marcos.

That usually means you are missing some of the mip or 3do files. Make sure that if you are compiling the track outside of your gpl folder that you copy the whole of the folder across to GPL to test it.

You also need to have the 6 lp files in there I think, even if they are just copied from another track. The AI wouldn't work properly, but at least with files there they do not complain. Also make sure that you have a track.ini file inside the gpl/your_track folder. Final thing is if you are using a dat from another track, make sure that you rename the dat to your_track.dat and extract the camera file from the dat and rename that to your_track.cam.

If all of the files are loose inside your track folder you can use sciss.exe to check if files mip files or 3do are missing. You should be able to find that program on this forum.

Good luck with it.
