Ok, i am done pulling my hair out (not that there is much left anyways).

I can not get the attached bmp file to be transparent. I've tried all 3 ways i know in PSP-X to make it transparent and there are transparent in PSP but as soon as i convert it to mip on the track it is no longer transparent.

If some one can convert this for me it would be GREAT!!! Also tell me how you did it, because i am missing something.

Just need it transparent above the top of wall (i know it seems like a odd size mip for a small wall)

Thanks it anybody can help

I know you have to use winmip & I think it has to be a type 4 mip.
I gave it a try & did a mip conversion - it might work.

Get winmip2 from here: http://www.horbra.de...mip/Winmip2.htm

Nigel Patinson's Papybmp is great for transparent textures

Hi reddog.
In winmip2, after you set the mip type to "4", there's an option to set the "invisible color". I clicked (use the "ctrl key" + left mouse button) on the black area to set it as invisible. Hope this helps.
Good luck on your track.
I've never used papybmp, so don't know how that works. But you might want to give that a try too.

Hi reddog,
as buzz say it is very easy to create a transparent color in winmip

Here is what you have to do with a 4 bit graphic

Attached File  bild023.jpg   13.75K   47 downloads

in this mip the transparent color is dark green so you change the letter under the green field from U to I. Then you have a type 1   4bit mip.

The next pic shows a 16 bit type 4 mip as buzz had explain. A click into the blue area with pushed control button do the trick.

A special version is the type 5 mip. When you convert it into a bmp you get two files. One is the normal picture of the mip and one ist a black and whit picture of the transparent mip. Winmip do the job for you when you change the bmp´s back into a mip. The two pics must be in the same folder. you can change the black and white transparent bmp as you want to get another transparent area in the mip.

hope this helps and thanks a lot for your add ons !!!!

Fast Tommi

Yea i was screwing up on the type 4 thats why i could not get it to work. Still used to the old days of GPL using 4 bit stuff YUCK. I even was doing what you called the type 5 mip  (mask) that worked in PSP but because i was converting them wrong they would not work   .

Anyways thanks, thats a great example you put up. Will be good for the next person to see.

Thx
reddog
