GPL Track Database Ranking

We have 2 options.
We can incorperate the ratings we managed to get ahold of in our ranking system and continue on.
Or we can start from scratch with out any ranking info used.
I would like to hear everyones thoughts on this so I know which route to take.

I've seen that in the ratings page the votes are in percentage... consequently the other ratings are misswrote( is it a word?), I've seen my track having 150% of fun rating
Ciao!

Very slick system with the sliders etc.
Took me a while to get it to work mind you, turns out my firewall was blocking something.
One thing I find slightly odd though:
Fun rating makes sense, graphical rating makes sense, but the general rating doesn't make sense to me. What is it a judge of?
Surely, the only two that matter are graphics and how much fun it is?
I suppose the third rating adds a bit of bias to the overal average if say the graphics are bad but the track is so much fun it warrants a better average rating. That's all I can really think of it representing...

The 3 option you had at Magnus' database was enough to me

Actually this is making more sense now you've mentioned the old ratings system at the trackDB.
They were (IIRC) fun rating, graphical rating and recommendation rating, i.e. would you recommend the track to someone else or not.
The 'rating' rating employed at GPLTD would make a great deal more sense if renamed something like recommendation IMO (or at least a neater word of the same effect)

The 'Overall' rating which is build as a sum of your choices / divided by the number of choices is only an mathematical 'Overall' of your choice or better the sum of all votes (choices) for a given track.
If I would be able to find this again. Maybe in the google archive system ?

But I remember the votes given just with pure numbers appearing to me more undestandable; # of votes is not a qualifier, since the number of votes can depend on how long the track has been in existence.
Another thing I remember is that Magnus didn't let a track appear in the ranking until it had 10 votes and the number was red until the votes were 25.
Here 3 pics to remind it better:
pic011.png 64.22K
53 downloads see on top left the 'rules'
pic012.png 62.01K
57 downloads this shows you the red votes when low
pic010.png 70.64K
66 downloads this is a page of the track descriptions with the markers of the ranking that were intense coloured if top ranking, shadowy if mid and grey if low ranking.
pic013.png 79.69K
69 downloads this last shows that beta tracks weren't allowed to get into the rating system.Hope this gives you more hints, not more troubles...
Ciao!

Thanks a lot Ginetto.
I still like the way with the % for votes as I think it's nice to see how much have voted for a track most and how much not but be sure that I will think about it
Another thing which is great is to disable rating/voting for beta tracks.
The red thing is a good idea too.
Thanks for all those Ginetto and be sure we will incorperate some of the original things.
