Ardmore Aerodrome NZIGP for Grand Prix Legends Version 1.00 By Mctshirt

History of Ardmore Aerodrome

Ardmore Aerodrome, located south of Auckland, was a wartime airfield under the control of the Ministry of Defense, being used by light aircraft operators and aircraft maintenance firms. First used in 1954 for the NZ International Grand Prix, the circuit was officially 2.0 mile long. Drivers competed over 100 laps for the NZ Motor Cup and 1000 pounds first prize. The Grand Prix was run anticlockwise for the first two years before running clockwise and including a hairpin from 1956. The circuit was marked out on the wide runways and connecting roads attracting crowds of up to 70,000 spectators. Ardmore staged the New zealand International Grand Prix until 1962 when it shifted to the brand new facilties at Pukekohe in 1963.

Many legends of motorsport from overseas and New Zealand raced there. Stirling Moss, Reg Parnell, and Jack Brabham enjoyed success there but were challenged by local drivers such as Bruce McLaren, Denny Hulme, Chris Amon, Ron Roycroft, Syd and Ross Jensen, Pat Hoare and Ralph Watson in the Lycoming Special.

This version of the track is a representation of 1956/57 era.

Thanks mctshirt :clap2:

This a fantastic looking track and a real hoot to drive :clap2: .  Shame about the AI.  What is that strange low speed sliding that they do?   Urgent treatment from an AI doctor required.  This is a real professional job in any case.

I'll never complain about the tires on the insides of the corners at Mexico again!

Thanks for the track Mctshirt, and effort taken to build it.

I don't know this track but hopefully I will learn a little of it's history  :clap2:

It's scary just how many historical tracks I haven't heard of before

Ummm....errr...no...Port Hills round Christchurch. It's an edited early Wigram horizon that was rejected as not quite right but as luck would have it was just perfect for Ardmore with a bit of a touch up  :)

After downloading Wigram Airfield (GREAT track BTW), I did a google to read up on NZ motorsports history.
I read about Ardmore Airfield & downloaded it - I generally avoided the airfield circuits but I had to try this one.
It's a great little track. It's not as easy as it looks. Great job on this
