Jason, your Cadwell Park update looks really fantastic.  Beautiful use of shadows on the asphalt surfaces.  Also, the grass and bank textures are remarkable!

I've also had some difficulty with getting a smooth drive though.  I have re-sized the mips that are over 2MB and found that the performance is pretty good now.  There are 23 mips in the rar archive file, which is just over 10MB in size.

May I make these files available as a "med-res" update?

... and Keith, would it be okay to upload here?

Cheers!

yeah - no problem with me

Sounds as if a few people are having PC performance difficulties so best to get a fix for everyone

Its difficult for me to judge this when creating the addons as I still get a solid 36FPs due to my system being quite powerful.  But its the only way to get real detail into the graphics at close range

Thanks for helping out

Cadwell med-res files for Jason Peters update v1.0 (8/19/05)

These are ALL Jason's files, which have only been re-sized. The files that were over 2MB in size, now are re-sized to half their original size.  There are a total of 23 files.

This should make you fly a bit smoother at Cadwell.

Many thanks to Jason for the excellent update!

Greg,
that should be great, for my PC at least :P
I've seen that reducing the mips by half the quality of the graphics while play in car game increase.
I use a 1024 resolution in GPL and obviously a 2048 mip is not necessary...
plus it slow down the fps.
Let's say that hirez graphics are good if you play with a 2048 resolution or higher and that's not my case  :( .
Thanks Jason for your work
Please let Greg give to all of us the mid res files :drive:

Ciao!

Thanks Greg and Jason,

That did the trick.

I get just a miniscule stutter in heavy traffic at Mansfield now.

Looks fabulous and as always the racing is great.

Wish there were more tracks that had that slightly scruffy, uncut grass look, many, including Papy's originals are too manicured and pristine looking.

Well done,
Nev

I can't download this update. It works fine at home (but I'm on a medem there as we've got no BB) but not at work. It says lost connection but it hasn't. I can download other stuff from here but not this or anything from Nino's Garage. I guess it's some settings. Can anyone help me as I'd love to have this one.

Thanks

Stewart

Thanks Jason

Cadwell Park is my favourite track, it was awesome when released by Geoff, the new AI made it even better, and your update makes it even better again!

Long live GPL!  :clap2:

An absolute beginner question: how did you re-sized mips? MipMan or WinMip can do? I would like to resize some Jason's Mosport mips for my personal use.
Thanks in advance

the best way is to use winmip to convert to .bmp

then use photoshop to re-size with a good filter

Then re mip them in winmip (ensuring the map is the same number)

Resizing always causes a few issues with invisible colours as it changes the edges to a colour near the invisible color - but bot quite so it shows in game.  The only way around this I have found is to re size these on a 'nearest neighbour' method in photoshop
