Hi guys,

Has it been six months since the mod came out yet?  I just wondered whether it would be OK to share this quick fix I did for the Maser tachometer, that alters it to a 1950's Jaeger type- as used in the 250F in period, as far as I've been able to find out.
It's by no means a criticism of the amazing work of the mod team on the wonderful 55 Mod, but the tach in the Maser has always looked a bit like a modern-retro offering from Autometer to my eyes. The font and overall look are identical to their "Golden Oldies" range.

Oh, and as you can see, I've added a works ID plate as well.

Anyway, if it's OK with everyone, and people want it, I'll upload it here, but I thought I'd better ask first.

Thank you again to everyone who participated in the creation of the 55 Mod.

Regards,

Del.

Thank you, Greg!  Here it is:

Just unzip to your GPL/ cars/ cars 55/ eagle folder.  If you don't like it, just delete the MasDash mip and you'll be back to normal.

One thing- in order to fit around the Jaeger logo, I had to make the brake fade indicator fractionally smaller, but I like the way it looks now- it actually looks like a little warning bulb in the tach when it lights up :-)

Regards,

Del.

Edit: V1.2 now uploaded, see post #13 below.

"So you like working on the dash, eh ? Good job !"

Sounds like a 'job recruiter' phrase, my friend.  I hope that you reach a satisfactory pay scale offer.   ;)

Thanks, again, Del.  :)

I do like working on dashes! You should see the dash in my road-car, it's a long way from standard :-)  and I love doing them in GPL too. :-)  Just about to upload V1.2 of the Maser dash...

delgs, why you made the dials yellow and not keep them more white?

More of an off-white, I thought. I did try white, but it just didn't look quite right to my eyes. This colour has an interesting optical illusion- when you're driving through a darker bit of track, as at the Nurburgring, for example, the gauges seem a little darker, and they seem brighter on lighter parts of the track. It might just be me and my eyes, but I rather liked that. As I say, I made them white at first, but it seemed a bit dazzling- it looked a bit silvery. At least to me. Still, they're not finished, I may try lightening them a little in the next version.
I'd also really like to do a black tach, because I've seen those in pics of 250 F's...but I have no idea how to turn the needle white. Still, thank you for the feedback, I'll keep at it :-)

You're right though, Ginetto. White is probably the colour the gauges were when first fitted, so I had a go at lightening them up a little. More historically accurate I suspect.

Del, I think that from some of the 250Fs color photos that I've seen online, that have what seem to be original gauges, they are off-white with a little bit of discoloration around the edges - turning yellowish.  Other photos show non-discolored white, while another shows either much discoloration or ... yellowish gauges.  :)

Your new v1.3 looks really great !

Yes, Greg, those were some of the photos I worked from. I suppose that gauges that are yellowed now, might have been white originally- or a greyish white, or off-white, it;s hard to know. But I'm glad of the feedback and the opportunity to refine my update to get it to something that works and looks right for the community :-)
