Greg,    Thanks for the response, your explanation is very clear.  Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the problem;  I checked all the reference points and created mip and 3do files as you described in the proper cars files ... the difficulty seems to be elsewhere.  I got good at this in the process of adding the 7 new tracks with associated cars & drivers.

An Oulton driv55.ini with two more car files (13 fails); the original with 11 works fine?  Maybe a problem with gplc55.ini in GEM 2?  I tried letting GEM 2 recreate that file but that did not solve the problem; GEM 2 sometimes does things that I don't understand and this may be another example.

Not a big deal, the 7 new tracks with race specific car sets are all working fine and I can change drivers; cars; and car numbers at will with no problems.  My question was more knowledge based rather than need based.  I'm retired and probably have too much time on my hands.

Again, many thanks for your developmental efforts and the kind detailed response to my question.

Roger

Roger, I had forgotten that I had trimmed back the pit boxes for '55 Oulton Park Gold Cup race event.  There is limited space for cars to be parked in front of the pit buildings.  That is the root of the issue!!  ;)

I added two more pit boxes at the far end of the pits by altering the track55.ini file.  This will allow you to add two more AI cars - Fairman and Marr.  I have made two new AI driver 3DO files from duplicates of Parnell and Walker.  This gives the correct driver names of Fairman in #12 and Marr in #17 ... the carskins are still the Parnell #11 and Walker #15.  You can make new carskins for those guys.  :)

I altered the driv55.ini to include driver sections for Fairman and Marr ... again by duplicating the parameters from Parnell and Walker.  I only changed the pertinent data for the car # and driver names.

This should help to get you along your way to a personalized '55 Oulton Park Gold Cup event.

Greg,  You are on the money with this solution; the pit stalls were the problem!   I converted Moss to #8, Fairman to #14, and Marr to #25 to use existing mips; I did not want to share #4 with Moss.  The Oulton Park race specific 13 driver car set is now fully operational.

I need a lesson in mip building so that I can produce FAI12a.mip and MAR17a.mip to complete your solution ... those mips (#12 and #17) are not in my coventry folder in any form?

Once again many thanks for your interest and efforts, I doubt I would have ever thought of the pit stall limitation.  Your knowledge base for this sim is quite impressive!

All the best,  Roger

Roger, here are very quick attempts at Fairman #12 and Marr #17 Connaughts.  They are, of course, still type B open-wheeled models.... just with the proper race numbers and driver helmets/faces.  ;)

Greg,     Thanks, once again, for all the effort.  I checked my installation several times and: (1) Fairman #12 and Marr #17 mips and 3dos are correctly installed; (2) Driv55.ini seems to be correct; and (3) I used your latest track55.ini ... somehow Fairman and Marr do not have any numbers displayed at Oulton???  Going to be away from my computer for a few days; I will relook at the situation then.

Once again thanks for all the efforts; worst case, I'll just use Marr with his already included #25 data and convert Fairman back to #14. Or in other words, I still have a 13 driver version of Oulton that would have never happened without you. The actual numbers would be nice but are not critical to the enjoyment of the game.

Thanks,  Roger

I made an error with the two driver/car 3DO files.  Please D/L this version 3.  Thanks! :)

Gary ...perfect  !!

Once Again, Thanks from a very appreciative ...  Roger

p.s.  For those of you who do not wish to share a number with S. Moss, he can be reassigned to #8 in the driv55.ini included above in Gary's post #87;
this Moss profile already exists in the existing coventry folder.

Hi Greg,

Just catching up with my backlog of GPL downloads.  Installed this great update but noticed three minor niggles where AI cars do not have a number "painted" on them..

Nurburgring - Paul Frere #10.  Problem due to è/e not matching? The mip and 3do file names are mixed between using è and e.
Nubrugring - André Pilette #12 / #121.  Problem due to mixing the two numbers between driver55.ini and the mip/3do?
AintreeR - - André Pilette #2.  Sorry couldn't spot the reason why.

I assume these are "missing" and not historically accurate.  Tried a quick google search and found a picture of Pilette at Aintree.  Looks like he did have a number 2 painted on.

All Gordini's so there must be a lazy mechanic on the team ;)

Thanks for all your efforts.  Appreciate all the work that you do for enriching the GPL experience.

webfoot, THANK YOU for finding these 3 issues with the Gordini AI drivers.  All were small problems that I did not catch within the 3DO files.
Also, thank you for your kind words.  :)

Please give these replacement files a go.  Drop them into your cars55\brm folder.

NEW archive v2 with these fixes also at Post #1.

Thanks Greg that was really quick work.  To tidy up a little I deleted the "FRE10a.3do" file which I think is now redundant and replaced by "FRÈ10a.3do".

Tested and looks good    Mr Pilette now sporting numbers and a nice gold paintjob (and numbers for Paul Frère).

Greg.  Noticed one other very minor adjustment that seems to be needed. On the SPA67 event, Perdisa's Maserati is without its #26; I checked the maserati file (eagle) and found a PER26a.3do but no PER26a.mip.  I then searched for a eag26.mip and found one.  I copied and renamed eag26.mip to PER26a.mip and the problem seems to be solved.

This brings to mind a deeper question ... how difficult is it to learn to open up a XXXXX.3do for a car and what knowledge is needed to adjust the 3do for minor adjustments like the one mentioned above (e.g. point to the eagXX,mip instead of the PERXXa.mip)?  A corollary question might be how difficult would it be to copy an existing car XXXXX.3do and adjust it to point to another mip and / or  car number?

The more I get into this Mod the more amazed I am at the level of detail and the attention to historical detail involved in this work of art.      Thanks again, Roger

Yep... It's effectively amazing... The modeling of each car is absolutely fa-bu-lous !!!

How much love... :)

And drive them... :wow:

Roger_F,

I just now D/L the 55Carsets V2 archive again and examined it to be certain that all of the necessary files are present for the '55 Spa entry of Perdisa in Maserati #26.
Why you might be missing the corresponding mip files for the PER26a.3do is a mystery to me.

Anyway, please check your private messages (in the black bar at the top of the SRMZ page) for message from me.  Thanks!  :)

One more time on this issue:  "The default player #4 now clashes with an AI car number at several circuits...."

When the 55Mod was being developed we did not anticipate making race-specific carsets.  So, we chose the old stand-by of player car '4'.

You can make a player carskin with another number.  You could, for instance, make a player car #99 by painting a blank (default) carskin with that number and saving the file as XXX99.mip.  Then you would need to make a XXX4.3do file (or modify a default 3do file) that has the 'call' for that XXX99 mip file.  This would give you a different player car with the #99 visually ... but the 55Mod would still list the player car as #4.

G.P.L. can be modded to change the player car number ... but that requires even more work, like making the new player car # files (both mip and 3do) for all car types.  Plus, if you race online, you would need to change back to player #4 for that.

My viewpoint was made clear on that issue.  There is nothing that I am willing to do on that.

I can change the Player car number to something else .... along with making new Player car 3do and mip files with this new number.   That all can be done.  The big problem is that the Player number would need to be changed within the GPL exe file.  That can be done. That would cause much confusion with people trying to login to online races - with two possible 55Mod exe files.  Not gonna happen.

The other method is to change the #4 AI driver conflicts to non-historic car numbers.  Again, I am not going to do that.

The 55 Mod Race Specific Carsets were given to the community to use as they wish.  You may change them using either method described above ... or any way you want.

Thailand flag for Prince Bira.

To give Bira his country flag in the 55 Mod Specific Car Sets.  Just drop it into your layout folder.  Note it uses the Ireland flag "slot".

Attached File  irlndflg.pbf   3.02K   14 downloads

CAUTION
This will cause a problem if you have any Irish tracks or drivers.  They will get a Thai flag.  I have checked and AFAIK there are no Irish tracks nor any Irish drivers in any mod.  Well ok I found Denny Hulme in a DrivGT.ini for Brands67 tagged as Irish nationality (in which Graham Hill was German)!
Apologies to any Irish players.  You could replace a different country, but that will take some extra editing.

Yes, for the Sports Car Mod we use the manufacturer, not the driver for the nationality flag.  :)

Ginetto, Greg,

Having been to many an international  sportscar race I should have clocked that.  :hithead:
