Vale John Surtees, met briefly at Goodwood early 2000's, always sad to see the greats depart but what a life well lived !!

Sincere condolences to the Surtees family

Sad news. :(

He was one of my favorites. He could have been one of the greatest on 4 wheels had Lotus, Ferrari, or Honda worked better with him. He was one of the greatest ever on 2 wheels.

I had been reading about him and the 1968 F1 season lately. 68 could have been a very respectable season for Surtees and Honda had they devoted all their attention to the RA301. John scored points in every race the RA301 finished. He was on the podium 2 of the 3 times. He set fast lap at Spa and took pole position at Monza. The RA301 was obviously fast but not very reliable. I find that ironic considering Honda built a good reputation in the US market for reliability.

RIP John.

RIP John. :(

John Surtees & HP Müller, perhaps the most impressive drivers for me, top-notch both on 2 and 4 wheels.

Thanks to M NFS, for the incredible Monza 67 pics.

RIP John. He was often at Shenington when Henry was racing his kart.

A great man, that smile will be missed. RIP.

From the little I know about the 1966 Grand Prix season, his efforts in the Cooper F1 car (post-Ferrari) deserve to be re-evaluated, they were truly remarkable. Talk about comprehensively outperforming the car, such was his class.
