Paul Ricard is a track with which many racing fans are familiar.  It has been 'banned' by many GPL leagues due to disconnection or freeze problems.

Well, that seems to be fixed.  I've created a small patch that will make the track reliably raceable for online racing.  Download and extract the file to your \\Sierra\GPL\Tracks\ricard folder and it should be good to go.

Both the server and client need to have the patch.  PLEASE - if you run into any other issues, report back here - where on track, what were you doing, what happened, how many other cars (on server, and near yours), etc...

Thanks Lou!

I like this track. It's too flat to my taste but I have lots of memories of real F1 races here, so it's still a must have - especially with this patch :)

TYVM, Lou.  Looking forward to test.  Been ages since I ran laps in GPL there.  No excuses now!  :)

Thanks Lou!!

I really like this track and also have good memories of the single time in which we raced it online! (well... maybe because I hadn't freeze, lol)

Lou, sadly the fix does not help.
We had a GPLRACER league race yesterday with the 65 mod. The server had your fix installed.
Despite the disco fix we had: 1 Disco in Qualification, 4 Freezes in Qualification, 7 Freezes at the Race with 15 drivers (65 MOD)

More details & server replay here:

Stefan,  was there any particular place on the circuit where this occurred?  Often the same place will cause the fault.  It can be one person in one place, but affect others.  If someone had an off, or a crash somewhere when the incidents occurred, that will help narrow down where the bug is located.

Also, if the clients did not apply the patch, this could have a negative impact on THEIR experience.  The game physics are both client and local.  The server would be independent of the clients physics.

Hi. Tried Paul Ricard again with a few friends the other day; still a freeze prior to pit in. Any ideas?  Thanks

Did you use the anti freeze patch? I think that this fix should even not be necessary if all drivers use the patch?

Bob, if you have the grk file for the track please send it to me via message at GPLR. I will attempt to check/repair 'gap' errors.

Thanks!

Make that track gtk file. 😋

Guys, Lou made this post after he was told that there were people still having problems online:

"Stefan,  was there any particular place on the circuit where this occurred?  Often the same place will cause the fault.  It can be one person in one place, but affect others.  If someone had an off, or a crash somewhere when the incidents occurred, that will help narrow down where the bug is located.

Also, if the clients did not apply the patch, this could have a negative impact on THEIR experience.  The game physics are both client and local.  The server would be independent of the clients physics."

Nobody answered him or agreed that both the server and EACH client connecting to it MUST have his patched ricard.trk file installed.

************************************************************************************

EDIT:  A little info on the GPL Track Database entry for this track.  The database has the Real Life actual track length for this configuration.  Our GPL track (ricard) is longer.  This is from the ricard.trk length.  Also, as to the year that should be designated - Olivier Grand states that although the French GP was held between 1986-1990 on this track, that his version has "Grey gravel (like in 1988)".  The database reflects this.  I have adjusted the track.ini for ricard and supply it below.
EDIT 2: I just noticed that there is a SRMZ link at the GPL database.  It points to a list of 'add on' files for ricard.  Please do not use the ones called 'ricard_replay_fix' or 'replay_fix' - they provide an out of date ricard.3do file.  The one that is in the Paul Ricard v2 dat file is the current file. But, DO USE the ricard.trk file supplied by Lou in this Topic.  :)

Took a little time to add some track sounds to the pit area and the grandstands for Paul RIcard 1988.

Also, while looking into the ricard.3do I found the curb mapping on the left-hand side of the last turn to be way off.  I fixed the curb in two sections.

Hi. Do you have freezes or CTD with this version?

Hi, Bob.  I haven't tried to run online with this track ... ever.  I don't get out much.  ;)

What I have edited will not effect crashes from trk 'gaps' as I haven't touched that file.  I would need the 'gtk' to examine and then work on.

Well, I have not raced the AI.  I have only practiced with them during testing of edits.

I just realized that there are more sections of multi-colored 'curbs' that are mis-mapped.  They are at the end of the front straight and at the beginning of the back straight.  Fixing those entails a lot of time and keyboard clicking .... don't know if I have the enthusiasm for it.  Maybe.

Just drove in an 80 lap race with the AI.  I pulled into the pits after 5 laps and let the AI finish with some accel from time-to-time.  No CTD.

Hi guys.  I was wrong about some of the Paul Ricard curbs being mis-mapped.  Looking at this and other photos of the Paul Ricard circuit in 1988, there were very wide white/blue/yellow/red curbs at certain locations around the track.  "Vamo, Senna!"

This archive contains a revert to the ricard.3do with the curbs as they appear in the original track, with track sounds added.
