I had the Ferrari, Honda and Lotus working prety well just now.

The Honda works pretty well for the Eagle ?? I like it. !!!

I noticed that I had the 'Engine Sound Patch V1.0' files. Is there a difference between 'GPLES' and 'GPLES Patch'  files?

Would be cool to try the Editor ...  Can't  register dx8vb.dll as instructed. Get  error message 0x80070005 at command prompt.

Cheers.

PH

later edit. got the dll registered by running command prompt as admin (right click on command prompt in context menu).

I can run the editor now! Editing of volumes is now possible for me.

I'm glad this thread got resurrected. I had played around with GPLES quite a lot and think it can really add to the immersion of the sim.

The main reason I stopped using it was because I have a weird intermittent online problem.

Running online with a variety of other drivers during practice sessions all worked perfectly but 9 times out of 10 joining a league race for example the sounds were either not there, or were badly distorted so I had to revert back to the standard sound set which ruined my lap times etc as the change up/down points were no longer familiar. Because of this I don't use it very much at all anymore. :(

Can anyone shed any light on why I would experience this? I only seem to experience this if it's a reasonably full grid (14+ drivers).

I've played around with the number of sounds etc in both GPLES and also in the sound configuration screen within GPL but nothing seems to make any difference.

I would be really interested to try your sounds Keyser in case it has anything to do with the file format I'm using.

Thanks for any suggestions.

TTFN
John.

How to use this for other mod?

What to name mod sound folders in gples folder and sub folders for GPLES to recognize the folders and sounds?

I tried the Can AM 71 mod, for example . I have the xml files in the mods ok. I need the correct folder names. I tried a few folder names but no luck. I chose the 71 mod because its car folder names are close to the 67 mod. No luck yet.

I'd love to use gples on the 69 extra and can am and GT mods.

Cheers.

It's great to see that GPLES is finally receiving some interest.  :)

It took me several years to figure out how to add multiple engine sounds to the running GPL .exe so that the sim plays the sounds just like the normal, single engine sounds.  When the patch was released back in 2014 and there was little to no interest in making new engine sound sets, I ended further development and and put it on the shelf.

I'm a bit rusty about how it works after all these years, but will try to help those who want to make new sounds sets and try the patch.

As Paul discovered, the dx8vb.dll is necessary for the sound editor and may have to be registered (it is not needed if you just want to play the sounds in the sim).  That is all covered in the Read Me.

The patch always uses the "Snd0" through "Snd6" sounds which must be located in the installation's sound directory.  So if you want, you can use any sound files by manually renaming and copying them there.

However, the sound loader program uses the gples.ini file to determine when to play each sound so it's important that each mod and car have its own gples.ini file that is tailored for it.

If I remember correctly, the sound loader program does a simple check to see if you have a mod installed and its cars have a directory for its sounds.  If not, then it won't show the mod's cars in the drop down list.  I'll have to go back and see specifically what it checks for.

Hi Lee!

I am really liking the GPLES! It certainly sounds great when doing real heel n toe.

Glorious throttle bursts! It will be fun making up sound sets!

Cheers.

Glad you like it Paul.

I'm away from my primary PC for a couple of months and don't have the GPLES source files with me.  However, it appears that for the patch to work, inside the installation sound directory, you must have the GPLES directory which contains directories for each mod and each of the cars.  The mod directory must be named the same as the .exe so the '65 F1 mod must have a "gpl65" directory which contains a "brabham" directory, .etc with the car's seven sound files and gples.ini file.

The program was written before the '55 F1 mod and the '67 extended mod were made so currently those mods aren't supported.

Lee,
Latest GPLES version that supports almost all mods you haven't upload yet, I think. If you want I can post it here. Because ver.1.0 has bug and it only supports gpl67 sound folders.

Ok,
Here is GPLES main exe v.2.1. To install just overwrite original GPLES exe in main GPL folder. This new exe support almost all mods (except for ThunderCars, Stratos and 1955 mods).

Also one important note: GPLES doesn't work with 69-extra and GT mods. Game crashes because this mods use different xml set then all other mods.

Here are GPLES sound folder names to use with GPLES v2.1:

Hi guys,

I got the GPLES V1.0 to work with the 67x carset.

All I did was copy the options folder to 67x's mod folder.

GEM seems to rebuild both 67 exe files.

Thanks for the post Pavel ! I will try all this out.

A/B ing sound files. I did a lot of this in old SCGT days.

Hours and hours of fun.

I will try and do a video capture of the GPLES in action.

Cheers.

Hi again,

Before moving onto creating all these folders, what about the existing 67F1 Brabham sound? It sounds like the 'on' files are not working properly? All the other sounds: BRM Honda Ferrari and Lotus  are working very well.

Cheers.

Those sound sets that came with patch are just examples and only needed to show you how to work with GPLES. Only proper Ferrari set was releasd by Duwolf.

Interesting!

But the existing Brabham sound is way off.

All the sounds  are just hums ... There are no engine 'on' sounds, it seems.

So this is why I ask: Are we sure these files are the intended files and/or that something unforeseen happened to the files like an unintended edit or mistake in naming these files before they were uploaded originally?

Thanks.

I think I have a pretty cool Lotus sound. I used the sound file editor suggested by Keyser 'Audacity' to bring the volume down a bit for the 'low' file for that set and I really like it. I tried lowering that file's volume via the editor and even editing the Lotus gples.ini file manually but i am assuming that because it is a cross fade file and that the volume is tied to the 'mid' file in the editor, it was necessary to use a sound file editor.

Lets see if I can upload a video capture of this sound in game.

Cheers.

Dunno Paul.  A quick look at the Brabham's gples.ini file doesn't show anything weird.

The ini file looks good. Its the sound files; they all sound like off sounds.

I'm watching the French GP and soon as that's done I'll do a capture of the current gples Brabham soundset.

Cheers.

I must be up to a dozen free or open source video screen capture programs. They all suck!
