Help Needed (Not Gpl Related)
Posted Feb 02 2020 - 12:02 PM
My name is Bob Russell (formerly Punko353) I ran Team Players Virtual Garage which was a rFactor modding team. I had worked on the GPL 55 mod prior to starting up Team Players.
I recently decided to remodel the cars of 55 for my own enjoyment and am planning on doing them in very high detail. These are not being done for any sim since they will be way to high of poly count.
I would like to know if there is anyone that could help me with some of the details (suspension drive train) that can't be seen in pictures.
I am currently working on the Gordini and am stuck on the rear suspension.
If anyone has knowledge and can offer any help I would be quite great-full.
I posted some pics so you can see what I am doing and they can be found here:
No need to respond in this thread since I know this is off-topic and I don't want to disrupt this section of the forum.
Thanks for any help that can be given

I would like to also do the type 32 but that is a ways off since I have the Maseratti, Ferrari 625 and D50 started but much to be done.
I know the T16 had a solid rear axle but just cant find how it is all connected to the frame.

@KARTM, that first image is about all the detail I could find as to what the rear suspension is but have no idea of where that swing arm goes (if that is what that is).
@akbergman, I saw those models when genetto first set up that 3d model section and have to say I am very impressed! I have been into building models since I was a kid. I have built a couple of small wood models in the past but always wanted to try and build a large scale one. I know the kind of time you had to spend building those so "kudos to you"
Most excellent work!

My biggest issue is how the rear suspension actually works. I can see the fixed rear axle and it appears to be an independent rear suspension similar to the front with the torsion coils (or what ever they are) connected to the upper and lower A arms (or I arms in this case).
I am curious as to what they are actually. I assume they have a coil spring in them that twists to provide torque.
Thanks again for the link,

I have been searching for a long time for this info and don't think that there are any pictures of the car with the rear body off.
Perhaps I need to try and find someone that actually owns one or someone that has seen it first hand.

Quite common in open wheel racers from the thirties through the fifties; wouldn't you feel comfortable in this '48 Kurtis midget racer -

And to think they didn't have seat belts...
