A special thanks to 6e66o and kuato above all the others that contributed to a "proper conversion" :artist: of our beloved GPL masterpiece.
Cheers guys!

Not my kinda track since it's too long, but I bet I won't be able to resist driving it for a few laps anyway...

Also, I noted ol' GPL guru Andre Streu was hoping to release an updated rF version of his classic Dessauer Rennstrecke this weekend as well.

that looks incredible. i wish we could do that with gpl :)
now that aside, do you know if the team changed the 3d objects? in some parts it certainly looks like it - sloped curb instead of regular curb, etc.
almost makes me want to free up some space, install rfactor again and run the wsc'70s on there. alfa 33 hmm. almost. :D

They did change several 3d objects. Can't give you the whole list though
Also the posts are movable in rFactor version :)

"ok how about we convert it back to gpl then"

I think Ginetto deserves more respect than to say that.

lol, sure. consider the above statement a tongue in cheek - hence the smilie :punish:. i think the entire team who has been working on the original targa put everything they've got into it and obviously squeezed everything out of it that is possible in gpl. besides i full well know how much work went into this and what it cost some of the team to get this result. and fwiw that result is limited by what gpl can do - and not by what the team can

Where will he release it? No mention on his site!

You can get it at NoGrip and Altbierbude, although the version he released today is only for GT Legends. Don't know if he has any plans for it for Rfactor.

I talked to Andre a while ago and as far as I remember, he did have plans to make an rFactor version, or be ok with converting it (if done with permission). But I think he said there would be an rF version as well.

A bit late,
but let me say thank you to Ginetto and everyone from the GPL Targa Team here as well.

Spending almost 2 years doing the conversion,
trying to optimize it the best we could,
the effort you guys put in in the first place amazes me even more!

This track really is something outstanding.
I doubt we will see something comparible for a long long time.

Hats off to everyone who made this possible.

I hope you enjoy the rF version.

Best Regards,
Georg

Thanks to you guys for taking the job (no small one) on! Also, I think in the long run, the conversion gives room to further update it down the road in all kinds of sims to come - which in GPL isn't so easy.

Thx guys (GPL and rF)! I just did a lap in the 70s Porsche and it feels and looks great!

Thinking back to those days (years ago), when we tested the early GPL beta versions of Targa (there was almost no vegitation nor houses :D ) I never ever thought this track could be available for rFactor. And now it is... :D

It's fantastic being able to drive the Gulf Porsche 908/03 around Targa. If rFactor had a WSC 1970 Rank site it might just steal my heart away from GPL!    :P  :D

Thanks to 6e66o and his team for the hard work it must have took to make this conversion.  I looked at the screens at the site and it looks fantastic.  I probably won't get a chance to try it until tomorrow, but the screens look super.  It looks like the rFactor version does great justice to the amazing work of the GPL team.

On a side note, I never noticed that Jim Pearson did work on the GPL version.  I missed that when Targa was released for GPL, but saw it on the credits at the rFactor site.  Pretty cool that so many of the great GPL track makers contributed to Targa.

Thanks for all the hard work from both the GPL team and the rFactor team for this one of a kind masterpiece.

Dave

edit: Strange, when installing the rfactor version I saw the GPL read me was included.  When I looked at the credits, Jim's name isn't there.  Must be a typo at the rfactor Targa site?  :idunno:
