Lots of SRMZ members have also visited The Fastlane in the past. We are holding a 'Best Grand Prix cars from each decade' poll at the moment and this week's decade is the 1960s!
http://www.the-fastl...hp?f=32&t=16588

Naturally the 1967 cars are blowing everything else out of the water. Would be grateful if other fellow members could share their thoughts!

Boy, this is a hard one...
I'd say the Ferrari 312 (67), Eagle T1G and BRM P261 are my main contenders.
Matra MS80 and Lotus 49 to round up the top five.

Honda RA300 for me.

Probably also one of the best sounding cars of the era.

There are a garage of beatiful cars with both awesome look and sound, but BRM P115 takes it all with its monster engine :D

Brabham BT24

Designed and built by two men in a garage, from scratch, immediately winning two F1 world championships on the trot, beat all the major manufacturers comprehensively and the [ reportedly ] best drivers of the era to boot!

No "if only s", no buts, just what the record shows!

I think the Honda RA272, with that transversal V12 1.5 engine.  A clockwork marvel...

Marcos.

I can't pick one. I like Jim's point. They also started with the 2nd most powerful per pound of engine weight mass production engine built in the US. Basically it was a cheap engine.

The car that first drew my attention to F1 - Ferrari 156 "Sharknose".

and the repco was build in a hut in the outback :really:  i have nothing against brabham far from but where those faery tales come from , Brabham was already a big player in 66 as big as lotus or cooper in the formula car market , building  the best selling formula 3 and formula 2 far from a 2 men operation

as for great vintage for wine, perhaps 1967, a season of different interpretations of  cigar shaped sixties single seaters that raced together .Some F2 which entered GP included
But with larger tracks and tyres than on the preceeding years, and without aerofoil, wings, the shape of those cars had reached an equilibrium to my liking , maybe lost forever. And so distinctives shaped engine exhausts, so distinctives RIMS !!
photographers most of the time found angles to make those shapes SEXY , even the Cooper T86 ! (pics on cars brands alphabetical order )

Ferrari 312 all the way for me. But the 1960's sure wasn't lacking in beautiful cars.
