Thanks modders!

Personally I like the most "formula cars" (i.e. open-wheel), but every mod is more than welcomed!

Regarding a '71 mod, mentioned before, I just wanna say that even existing with another sims, GPL is different to all of them. You can drive the best rFactor mod and never will be as the "worst" (if it's possible) GPL mod. So, liking both GPL formula cars as I like them, I think would be GREAT a '71 (or any other open-wheel) mod for GPL.

Cheers, Marcos.

Agree with all the above. GPL has given me so much knowledge of historic motorsport and made me really appreciate it.

GPL is THE place to go for simulated historic motorsport and i certainly think another F1 Mod would capture the headlines in the SIM community, especially as it will be done to 'GPL standards' with the usual eye for detail, so the 55 Mod would be a great addition and the first F1 Mod in a while.

I've started to get into the 71 Can-Ams this year, and so would look forward to the 66's also.

Anything from the Mod team is fine by me as its always top quality and blends in with all the other Mods in having that GPL feel.

Keep up the great work. Its appreciated by many. There is so much content to go at already that i'm blown away with what we have.

A few years ago I did a quick computation - if you ran a one hour practice, half hour qualifying, and two hour race at every (then) available track (not counting duplicates) with each car from each mod ...you would drive over fifteen years non-stop.

There are probably a million people that have been doing this for the last 15 years...they've been so busy driving that they haven't had time to post anything to the forums.  :)

Can't wait for both the next CanAm mod (my favorite year) and the 55 mod. Thanks in advance to all the wonderful people who make these.

Here's a great video of the 55 race at Spa. Very professional video with a clear picture. It shows the track being prepared for the race. Qualifying in a heavy rain. Lots of close ups of the pits and garage working on the cars. The worlds biggest tire pressure gauge. All the drivers. The whole race with Fangio dominating.

Watch this if you want a real feel of the 55 race.

Thanks Pete, great find. I guess I should go back to the drawing board for some '55 updates...
Also thanks to that, I've now got videos of '55, '58, '62, '65, '66 and of course some footage of '67. '71 GT race would also be appreciated ;). My pet project

It was mine too when I was a tester. I was heartbroken when the project was dropped. I wish I had kept what I had on the mod. I lost everything on a hard drive crash.

On its current version, the 55mod can be raced offline and online. There is still much work to do with the cars graphics and also with the physics, mostly considering the latest developements (brake fade and more of that kind).
Once the 66CanAm is finished, I bet we will give it a go, finally :)

And when that moment comes, I might just cry a little bit, getting to race Fangio, Ascari, Moss and the others.

After watching those two videos and reminding myself of how gorgeous those cars looked and sounded all I can say is, if there is a '55 mod in preparation - then bring it on!!!

I daresay that has probably been the most anticipated mod for GPL.

Someone started a '55 F1 mod for GTR2 (or rfactor?) but never finished it;  it was released as "55F1" but contains only the Mercedes with a handful of skins, so you can have a spec racer series with it (if you can overlook the incongruity of competing against a pink Mercedes, a lavender Mercedes, etc.).

We lost our key GPL modeller Gusavo who went to work for Blimey (who produced GT Lregends and GTR2) now known as Slightly Mad Studios.  We got two 3D modellers who had previously worked on NASCAR Heat.  However, we hit problems converting the models to GPLs format and so effort switched to the 69 mod which could use the GPLEA cars as a base.

One of the modellers, Punko, went on to produce the 55 mod for rFactor.  There were other cars as well as the Mercedes but they were never released.  The other modeller, BigBen went on to produce the 37 mod for rFactor which was fully released.

That's good.  Gustavo's D50 was superb - he knew how to produce a lovely model in 3DS Max and still get good fps.  Sadly this expertise wasn't available for Big Ben and Punko who's relatively low res models ran at half the frame-rate of the D50.

I think I know how he did it. I've implemented some of my ideas in the 1966 Can-Am mod and I'm seeing good results, it's just about finding the time to optimize all Royale's lovely crafted 3do's, hopefully I'll get far with the '66 Can-Ams and also with the 55's :) .

Tommie.

THIS is sounds more interesting to me than a whole new season physics and all. Are you modelling just fade or wear as well?
