That "wall" was not visible along the Curva Grande and the Curva della Roggia (Variante della Roggia is the name of the chicane that was inserted here).  There were hedge rows and trees between the track edge and the concrete wall which was further away.  Later, the hedges and trees were removed exposing the wall at the newly profiled Curva Grande.  This brush_s.mip file by Thomas Lächele beautifully represents the natural growth present during the 1960-70s.  :)

This clip from the movie "Grand Prix" shows 'J.P. Sarti' entering the Curva Grande at the 0:33 mark, passing a car at Curva della Roggia at the 0:48 mark... and then the comparison between 1966 and 2007 continues:

Thank you, Greg for the clarification and the reference   .  Great video, indeed. From a first impression, I noted more Coca-Cola adverts in 1966, than in our GPL 1967 version.

Thank you for your comments, Gianfranco.  You are most welcome.

Yes, I noticed the difference in the quantity of Coke ads, too.  :)

Did anyone try to apply as many textures as possible from the Laechele monza10k to the regular monza? With his appoval of course if you'd share it. His monza10k looks fabulous, so if possible that would be a nice upgrade. But the 3do's are different, so likely you'd run into a lot of problems with texture mapping/repeating.

Nicolas, you are correct in pointing out that there are some issues with mapping the Monza 10k textures to the papyrus Monza track.  Given here is a hint that the textures can be used in some cases.  I have used a number of the Monza 10k textures and have tweaked them for myself.

I do not want to post any of these files out of respect for Thomas.  The one file that I posted above is un-touched and includes the ReadMe.txt file from his update.  I am sure that he may issue an update for Monza in the future.  :)

I hope he does, and I agree with not sharing a package with loads of his (altered) texture without his consent.

they used a reversed track for a motorcycle race, in 1967. Not many 1967 periods doc ( if any ?? )  covers this part of the track between Lesmo 2 and Vialone.
Trackside trees and grass are rather well rendered in our GPL track, for that section. We can see the natural trees barrier on the right, that I crash into so often when getting out of Lesmo 2.

sry, completely mistaken ! :hithead:  seems it is not used in reverse, but that 's the section outing from lesmo 2 and going into the Della Roggia left hander .
Because the tower is in the right side. No tower on the left side at Lesmo ; Then, there were people at Della Roggia, and the place seems to be free of trees, rather an open field

So trees and bushes on the left where really close to the asphalt ! Then, our GPL track needs higher bushes than the regular tree barrier he has .Isn't it those bushes Amon and Surtees dived into when they crashed in 1968 ?
Some people on the right side , out of Lesmo 2, cld be added, too.

The default track has guardrail on the left side i believe.
Seems it wasn't there in '67?

There was guardrail there but it ended bit earlier than we have in GPL.

Thks Pavel. When I look from F10 view in GPL, the section going from Lesmo 2 to Vialone look a lot like the section after Curva Grande

Then the concrete wall on the left that we have, and for which Thomas Lachaele did new textures, wasn 't there in 67;

The tower on the right is surrounded with a clearing, with no trees, but with some people, that we don't have in GPL. And a high barrier

This track shows how much Papyrus originals had always a regular asphalt cover, and this pic show again some irregularities which cld affect the cars suspension moves. With a perfect asphalt, some seconds per laps  cld have certainly been gained.
