Hi everyone.

I just thought there may be 1 or 2 people interested in how a 1968 F1 mod for GPL is coming along. It is getting reasonably close to completion in the amount of work that I have the ability to do. At the end of the year regardless I want to stop work on it. Amazingly I have been working on this since 2013 (I didn't even know it was 5 years until I checked today :o). I did have some breaks over this time including a very long one. I am ready to start enjoying this mod instead of finding something to work on every time I go to do some laps. Now this doesn't mean it will be released when I stop work. If I can't get it up to a high enough standard it will not be released. If I can though I will be happy to share the mod. There will still be lots of testing to do however after I stop work.

All I will say so far is that the mod is split into 2 as an Early and Late 68. Part one starts after the historical 67's finished at the second round of 1968 the Race of Champions up to the French Grand Prix. Part two is the British Grand Prix to the final round in Mexico. In reality the season was split into 2 parts in the same way (discounting the South African GP which has always been a headache for me with historical GPL :P). I will not comment further just yet on why it has been done this way except that I have found no other options. Some problems were encountered doing the mod as a single carset. If a release comes I will explain it more then. I have had a lot of important help with some parts of the mod and it would not be where it is now without it.

I only decided to do this post because of a couple of people here on SRMZ that have shown interest or commented on 68 F1 for GPL before.

I have attached a few screens of the mod.

I had an inkling this morning, out of the blue, that it might be worth it to check out Srmz to see if there were any news. I was not disappointed. Regardless of when and if this 1968 mod will be released, it's looking very beautiful indeed. Make it three people interested :D Congrats!

Well I have to say, it`s looking really good. Hopefully you`ll get it to a stage where you will release it. Definitely make it four people interested. :) I`d be happy to help with some testing if needed. Just let me know.

Congrats from me too.

Wow, Excellent news and an amazing effort. I cannot imagine the amount of work you must have invested in this. I look forward to its release and hope you can make it within the 50 years anniversary of the simulated year.

Thanks for the update, I'm very curious how this mod will turn out it certainly looks very promising! I've had some fun with the 1968 carset that uses the 1969 physics, but a proper standalone 1968 mod is defenitely on my wishlist.

I'm really looking forward to trying this mod when it's released! It's looking really good. I especially like the in-car shot at the 'Ring with the fog (and rain?). Very impressive.

Chris

That looks really fantastic. Good luck in getting to the finish line. A proper 1968 mod fills a gap in a GPL driving career (Irridux's 68 car set has been a good stop gap).

Thanks very much for the update, Chris. This is fantastic news that I (and I'm sure many others) have long been hoping to hear.

The screenshots look beautiful and if it's anything like your 67 historical mod then it will be well worth the wait.

For the player entry at Mexico, I want to get Pescarolo car and helmet, as I see with the 19 Ai's limit, he is not on your grid .

Congrats for the stunning work and our exchanges at the GPL Repository
