I'd rather upload the .iso of my GPL disk than see "those" paid sites receive support. Sold-Out Software has no more copies available on Zavvi, Shopto, Amazon or other online stores?

I Have a folder on one of my external hard drives the best games of Sierra/papy and includes proper full installation directories of gpl, viper, racing, nascar legends and a couple more.
Dont ask me where I got this from as I have had it donkeys years and forgot where it came from.
I would gladly donate it to this site, but that could be rule breaking and a bit naughty so!!!

They pretty much force you to pay to download. I tried the free download just to see what would happen. I picked NR2003, because I lost my CD for it. You have just 24hours for free downloads. The download speed was so slow that it would take 2 days to finish, and I have a 66mg speed. So, i'd never get it downloaded before it timed out.

I have two copies of the game, the big box version and a simple dvd case 'greatest hits' version. But I still used a iso to install the game since it's easier.

I think downloading or sharing a iso of a game the isn't sold anymore isn't such a big deal right?

Just clicked free version and got 12-plus hours estimated download time.
But for six bucks, faster download time, (have to assume), and you have it when you would not otherwise?
So its a commercial site...they have to cover costs and make it worthwhile for them to keep their site going.

Also, that this is happening suggests possibility of alternatives and maybe its not as much an issue as has been assumed?

Any other sites like this offering Grand Prix Legends for fee?

Or free full version?

That site is quite clearly a piracy site, not commercial. I don't know why it hasn't been stamped on and shut down. Maybe it hasn't been noticed by the legal eagles yet, maybe it's hard to trace who is hosting it, who knows? But piracy is piracy, no matter how people might like to look at it. I admit that people who don't currently have a legal CD of GPL now have some problems if they want to install it, but I don't think piracy is the solution. Maybe now that GPL isn't available any more from normal sources, someone will make an arrangement with a reputable site such as Good Old Games (GOG) to make a cheap download available? I think we should wait and see before we resort to illegal methods, and before we start giving money to people who are probably dodgy.

(Maybe I'm being over-sensitive, but personally I would like to see the link in post #1 deleted.)

Not interested in supporting piracy...hacking code is okay?
Tacky area I know, but maybe this was really not a good idea to post link.
So deleted link, but easy to find on Google as its near top results when searching for "Grand Prix Legends."

But, flying US flag on Firefox with corporate office in Belize and operations in Czech Republic selling keystroke spyware?

Oh boy...everyone, sorry, sorry for posting that link.

Thanks Saiph, for making a bit of noise.

I must add that paying for a iso on such a site is indeed wrong.

But I don't see much harm in people who share someone a copy of their disc with a member on this forum. Even though it's technically still not how it's supposed to be done.

Grand Prix Legends is as I understand officially abandonware by virtue of a legal filing.
Posted a link about it awhile back, (and now cannot find).

I would still feel a bit uneasy about doing that, but it's true, I don't see any practical alternative at the moment. It's just that I don't think we should be visibly involving SRMZ in that process in any way. Our overworked and under-funded admins on this site (we love you guys! ) have had enough problems over the past few years with people hacking the site, trying to destroy it, and trying to keep it permanently off-line. The last thing they need is the possibility of getting "cease and desist" letters from lawyers, and I think it would be rather unkind of us in the community to expose them to such a risk, no matter how unlikely it might be.

There is a LEGAL site I know which has all sort of old DOS games and late nineties one. If I remember correctly there's GPL too. As I said, it is a legal and well known publicly site, but I will make my research before sharing it here

I definitely agree with Saiph.  Out of respect for Bill I wouldn't upload it here just to be on the safe side.

The timing of this thread is kind of funny though.  Last week I went to build a second test install of GPL and discovered this when I grabbed my cd:

Posted Image

I was sad to see that Sold Out no longer had GPL and a bit surprised there were no easily available iso's out there in the wild when I searched.

Okay, found it.
For reference only...here is link to the post with the GPL officially abandoned link noted earlier:

http://srmz.net/inde...=15#entry112477

Ageeing with Saiph, see no reason to wobble and shake things up around here, and no reason really for anyone to need a full version when Demo 2004 is available and all that is missing is tracks.

But, if USPTO is okay with Sierra giving up rights wonder why there would be any problem if someone somewhere else were to make the missing tracks available.

In the meantime, like to see a howto on using the Demo to get install up to current standard...graphics, tracks, mods, so no longer any need for disc.

Found another obviously pirate site today that offers "Grand Prix Legends Original Tracks" download.

As I understand, it is dangerous to even get on one of these sites, (freaks me out when I do), let alone download something off of one, as you have no idea what else you are getting.

But they are out there, luring people in. Not apparent anyone is claiming rights or posting cease and desist orders.
