I too, would like to praise this masterpiece. I can't get it working for the 65 mod (my favoured mod). I've been running a few races there in Formula 2. Amazing track.
You need the 65 patch found at http://srmz.net/inde...?showtopic=3765 to get long tracks working.

I've tried installing it many times and it has never worked. My install directory is a mess, still the game and most mods will work on my computer, so that is at least something. The 69 cars are uncontrollable for me, but I suspect that is mostly down to me using a keyboard. I happen to be 5,700 miles away from my steering wheel, which is in storage now.

I will be getting a new computer in a few months, so when I do, I'll do a clean install and follow the instructions to a t.

Beautiful track and in the real life it would be insane to drive it with fast cars like Porsche 917.
That's how Helmut Marko (alltime recordholder IRLife) described it! :D

I think everyone describes it like that :P

Maybe almost same as driving a Lancia in tour de corse back in the day of group B?

so far, my best lap time is 37:08, done in the ferrari gt. this was done a year or more ago, and if i remember correctly i wrecked a few times and had to shift+r a few times. btw, i like to keep full damage on.

i kinda stopped playing for a year or so, and recently start racing again, so i've had to kinda relearn the course. i also don't use the mod where you can start at various places around the track to help you get to know the track better. i always just start at the beginning and if i crash alot will get frustrated and just quit for a while, and come back later. so, some of the track i know better than others.

anyway, i've been trying other cars for fun, and lately i've ran many many laps in the ford mark IV. the best lap i've run in the mark I
V is in the 38:30 range, and my best lap in the mark IV i didn't have to shift+r at all, but i did kinda go off road and/or have a couple slow downs. so, i'm kinda done with the mark IV as i just don't see how i can make up more time with it. it's just too heavy for this track imo.

so, the last few days i've switched over to the porsche 910 and the best lap i've run is 37:09(one second slower than my best lap, in the ferrari), and this was with around 8 or maybe 10 crashes (then a shift+r). so, i feel confident if i could run a crash free lap in the porsche i'm sure i can get well below 37:00.

i'm also getting better at hitting the apexes of the corners, which on this course is tough, because if you miss the apex a little you can get yourself in real trouble.

btw, it seems like i remember something about some1 running a 33:xx lap in the porsche 910. how-the-hell is this possible?

Well I guess with Porsche 910 that would be really hard but Leo Kinnunen did it real life in 33:xx with Porsche 917.

BTW. Great lap times you got. Two minutes faster than mine (I remember crashing once that time to some hay bale without damaging car). I do exactly same thing that I always start at the beginning. I haven't driven Targa too much yet though. Maybe little over ten times around?

I guess the best for realism police would be to start at the gas station, where all the cars were used to start during the practice days.
The value is already in the track.ini and trackGT.ini, you can replace manually the numbers if you wanna try without the targa trainer

A 908/3 in fact. Porsche didn't use the 917 at Targa or Nurburgring as it was too heavy, preferring instead the 908/3 which was more of a "hillclimb special" type car.

Here's a visual comparison between the 917 and 908/3. The 908/3 is far more compact and lighter, much better suited to the tight Targa course. The no. 40 car in the picture is the actual one in which Leo Kinnunen did his fast lap at the Targa in 1970.
(And I hate to plug another sim when I love GPL so much, but I have rFactor with the World Sportscar Championship 1970 mod, which includes various models of the 917 and 908, including Kinnunen's car. It's really enjoyable!  ;) )

no need to plug them, there are a few 917s and various 906, 907, 908s in GPL. its's just that y'all can't drive them yet. they will come - eventually.
anyway regarding targa. now, a couple of years after the release and being part of a team working on another big, but not targa-big, track, i can't get my mind around how the targa team did what they did. our track is 1/7 or so of the targa and i felt like giving up a few times just looking at the what's still left to do list and the sheer size of it. so my utmost respect to ginetto and team again - that was a tour de force. reskinning exisiting and completed tracks can be a chore at times, but doing it from scratch... :hat-tip:

Oh yeah. I just remembered wrong.  :duh:  Thanks about correcting my mistake. I maybe thought about Lemans where Kinnunen drove that 917.
