Hi John!

The overwhelming echo to your post reminds me of a cartoon of Gary Larson.

The second dog from the right says: "Yesterday I learned I'm suffering from intestinal worms."  Summarized: Human racers don't like to be replaced by technical systems. ;) Alter

Thanks Alter.
Maybe intestinal worms is the wrong metaphor? .
:D

Reminds me more of rules and regulations.
So guess it could be appropriate.
New rule: no drivers.

Driverless cars are boring.
The technical novelty is interesting.

Don't think racing them qualifies as sport.
When watching an F1 race my enthusiasm is for the drivers not so much their cars.

It is a good show when back of the field manufacturers do well.
Glad for the team when it happens.
More glad for the driver tho.

We have a bit longer yet, considering one of the three test cars crashed :)

It'll be interesting to see how quickly and how good they get.

When one beats e.g. Lewis Hamilton, that's when we should start getting worried..

Chess, Jeopardy, Go.. Driving is next?

We all know that AI v AI competition is easy, once you throw a human element in all bets are off.

When people started racing cars, I'm sure there were other people saying it wasn't a sport because only horse racing is real racing. Of course, horse racing is still a thing today. Robots racing will surely be a sport, like robots fighting, and there will always be humans racing as well, just like there are boxers today eventhough everyone knows robots wars are the best wars. Except for Storage Wars Canada, which has Ursula in it.

Hopefully racing robot cars will be as popular as robots fighting.

Checking definition of sport find several as in pretty much all include humans doing something as participants, like when humans control their battle bots.

Not sure how much car manufacturers want to give up on selling driving experience.

"BMW, the ultimate don't have to drive it machine."

Maybe.

I wonder if we will get a Jackie C3PO Stewart looking out for the safety and well being of these beasts?

A bit off topic (Ok a lot). ;)
