I quite fancy personalising my helmet colours. Having looked around a bit I understand that this is done via editing the ???helm.mip from the car dat file (though I cant see this file in the 67 dats???? FOUND THEM in the directory not the dat for 67's)

Before I start out on this can someone answer some questions...

1. Is the technique mentioned above the same for all mods?
2. If I do this will all AI cars of the same type have my helmet? (I suspect YES)
3. If I do this will this show when I am online racing? (I suspect only to me on my PC and so videos generated by hoster wont)
4. If I play a replay of an online race will my helmet show correctly? (I suspect yes but I also suspect all cars of same type will use same helmet)

in each car file theres a plahelm .mip, in some mode one car plahelm overide the others

If the file is loose in the car folder it will overwrite the .dat so loose is better for you.

I think plahelm.mip is used in all the cars67  car graphics folders so you only need to change the brabham.


The mods use a similar idea but the file names may differ or be different for each slot.
You can use datman to look for files inside a .dat and export them for editing or GPLveiwer to check loose files in a folder without having to open everyone with winmip.

For offline races, the player is car number 4, (this in mod67, each mod can use a different number for the player).
  AI pilots have their own helmets.
  For online racing , there is an independent carset , from driver 1 to driver 19 , regardless of the car number .
  For you to see your helmet online, you need to know where you enter the server.
  For this, know that, in online races, the driver who enters the server, loads driver19, then 18, 17, 16.....
  If you are sure you will be the first one in, then modify the driver's helmet 19 .
  For others to be able to see your artwork, they must also install the edited file modification.

If you want to see you personalized helmet in all the cars of the Mod'67, here is the list names. Put your file in the correspondant car's folder with the adequate name and normally it should work.

Remember that it's a bit different according to each Mod. If you need a correspondant list, tell me and I'll send you what I know.

Thanks for all the advice. Before I start I thought I would ensure I understood how it works. Using the Brabham 67 car as an example the r04helm mip looks like this...

which looks nothing like the mip but does respect chosen colour. I am a little confused????

The only thing that I can say is that GPL load the file r04helm as helmet for the brabham.
And the picture of your brabham is not enough good to have an idea of what is the problem...
Can you post a "real" screenshot...? Thanks in advance, and have a nice FoS weekend...

It looks to me like that rounder, lower definition helmet, originally from the GPL.

Fraps - Wikipedia thats the one i use on W10 ,and the free software work fine to take screeshot of GPL

My old (old, old, old ...) standby for screen captures.  It will save either the 'window' in focus or the entire screen.
Choose where to save the image file and how it is named.
Easy-peasy.

I haven't changed anything yet but get a plain helmet - no pattern.
I am using the original 67 sim not the 67 extra historical mod.

its the 2D helmet that you have  ,normally  the 3D helmet is the one by default .its a different car 3do file(brabham.3do) look in your car file

Look in your brabham car folder (directory) not file.

Greg and Kartm are perfectly right, in your cars 67 folder you have the helmets in 2do, as says Greg look at your Brabham car folder (and also all the other cars) you should find a folder with a file for activate the 3do helmets, put it in your correspondant folder and this time everything must change

You are all correct it seems I wasn't using 3D helmets and when I do I get the correct patterned helmets. So now off to do a bit of Photoshopping!
