I was wondering if those could be opened in order one after the other, rather like the way your "Signature block" works, or a different mainback opening each time one opened the GPL XSCMod., I greatly like both yours and his but do think that the artistic surpasses the photographic.
I've had a look at GEM, and there is a function which allows a program to be run just before
GPL.EXE, when you press the GPL green flag button on the GEM screen. It may be possible to write a small program which copies a graphics file from a selection of several stored in a directory somewhere, and copies that to your GPL installation so that it shows up as a new menu background picture. The program could keep track of the last pic it copied, so that they could be copied in sequence. Or there could be a random function built in. You would then have a new menu background every time you started GPL. However, the little test program I used to check this was supposed to wait for a keypress, and this didn't work. I pressed the GPL button in GEM, I saw my "Hello" screen pop up from the extra start-up program, but then, about a second later, GPL started without me pressing a key. It seems that GEM goes ahead and starts GPL anyway, no matter what the start-up program wants to do. If there's no way to pause the start of GPL.EXE, then the extra program might not have enough time to do the file copying before GPL tries to load the menu screen image, and this might cause problems.
I'll keep on experimenting and see if I can get something to work.

I wonder if it's possible for one of our clever chaps to get the screens to rotate. Gpl is capable of showing videos in game...such as the newspaper. Also isn't there an option in GEM+ to toggle videos and animations on and off.
The GPL newspaper rotation stopped working quite a while ago, as I think it used quite an old-fashioned technique for displaying the animation. I think I remember someone having a look at the problem, but I'm not sure if they fixed it. I haven't taken part in a race in GPL for a long time, so I haven't seen the newspaper recently.
The GEM options for turning animations on and off only
refer to the pictures shown on the GEM menu (the car set on the left, the track pic in the centre and car on the right). They do not control any animation features inside GPL itself. I think it requires a special image format to see the animations on the GEM menu, and I don't think anyone has created files like that for a long time. Static images are usually used these days. The various menu screens in GPL are always loaded as a static graphics image, and there is no facility for making them rotate. It would take a large amount of patching to introduce new code to make the menus spin, and even if this were possible, IMO I don't think it would add anything to GPL. Would you really want the screen to spin every time you changed from one menu to another? I don't think I would.
