I decided to start a new thread collecting other historic testimonials available in youtube videos about the original layout of GPL tracks, preferably with onboard scenes. Since there is a lot of material available at youtube I will provide this information in several posts.
Here I will start with an overview of several more or less known motion pictures providing a lot of real racing action on the classic race tracks of the 1960‘s and early 1970‘s.
Let‘s start with the iconic „Grand Prix“ (1966) movie. Special scenes at Monaco, Monza, Zandvoort, Spa, Clermont-Ferrand, and Brands Hatch are displayed including spectacular onboard action. The complete movie in high resolution quality is available here:
The race scenes of the final race at the Monza 10k track in high resulution quality is available in the following link:
fantastic racing and onboard action at Zandvoort in the "Grand Prix" movie:
The next movie I recommend is the „Le Mans“ (1971) movie:
„Nell‘Inferno Del Grand Prix“ (1970) is a very bad and cheap remake (imo) of the Grand Prix topic. The movie is in Italian and the youtube copy is of poore quality. If you do not understand Italian it doesn‘t matter since the movie itself is not worth to be watched. Nevertheless there are displayed interesting racing scenes including onboard action, especially several testing laps the classic Monza track without chicanes.
The movie „Winning“ (1969) is somehow the US equivalent to „Grand Prix“ displaying a lot of Indy 500 action in the 60s but also other sports car, CanAm and touring car races at other US tracks are displayed.
In one piece:
or in several parts:
That‘s the first part of the collection of youtube links related to the historical layout of the classic race tracks available in GPL and the modded versions. Others I will post soon.
