Two days ago Windows decided to plant another update on my machine.

After not touching the game yesterday, I tried it this evening and Windows won't boot the game.
It only goes to the menu's resolution only to revert back, without even seeing something of the menu at all.

I tried to uninstall the update that came but it has been no success.
In fact, when I go back to the same menu after the reboot it was still there.

Are there any others with this issue?

Add info:
GEM+ normally rewrites the gpl___.exe files after hitting the green button.
I notice that it no longer does this process.
When asking for confirmation to changes things, none of the gpl___.exe files show up either.
All the .exe files are still in the GPL folder.

No problem here.

My latest update is "April 2, 2019, update for Outlook 2010 (KB3114559)” and "April 9, 2019—KB4493464 (OS Build 17134.706)"

You might check that a virus checker isn't at fault.

My guess would also by antivirus related.

Recently my game also stopped working all of a sudden. Turned out an ESET update was the cause. The game would crash immediately at the main menu and then return back the to desktop. (With the desktop sometimes even stuck in the 640x480 res.) Adding every gpl**.exe to the exclusions lists (realtime security and HIPS) fixed it completely. That was on Windows 7 by the way.

Don't think it is a virus checker / firewall thing.

I tried installing on my second hard disk and GPL booted without any issue.
My guess is that something went wrong in my normal GPL folder.

Edit: Didn't see Millenium's post before my reply here.
I don't think I have a particular virus program. I have Malwarebytes, but... it might be some new setting in Windows Defender.
I noticed my Firewall was re-activated so I undid that, but GPL still is not working.

Does the game on your second hdd also keep working after some driving and quiting it a few times?

Because my game would sometimes work after changing some settings (including using a different hdd location of the same gpl installation), but after a few restarts it would freeze up again.
It still doesn't make any sense to me why it did that, but adding the whole gpl folder and/or .exe's to the defender exclusion list might fix it.

Yeah, the gam e works fine.

In further development, I tried assigning the new GPL isntall (let's call it "C:\") and removed the old install ("D:\") at the Installs section of GEM+.
After closing it, and trying to re-add the D:\ , it gives the error "Exe not valid as a GEM+ base exe".
I guess the I have some corruption in my folder and I need to repair these files.

UPDATE: did a re-install on the D:\ folder, fixed the issue.

Windows Defender is a virus checker. Look in Start button > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Windows Defender Security Center > Virus and threat protection > Settings > Exclusions - to exclude any GPL related folders or files.

BTW, I have seen my GPL.EXE just disappear for some unknown reason. I'm guessing that it was Windows Defender that caused that.
