My suggestion they be followed was simply for convenience and safety while driving around touring a track.
"The racing line" is something different.
Grand Prix Legends does not model rubbering in except with the graphic of the groove shadowing on a track. It does not effect grip, which is the same everywhere for a given track surface. Changes in track camber and the car's trajectory thru a turn effect its behavior and grip/traction. The groove file is intended to indicate the racing line.
Forgot to note the Primary Directive which is...
Be Your Own Expert
Trust no one short story...there was once a "guru" that published a big ramble about theory and practice. It was there for a few years and everyone accepted it as worthwhile and credible. But turns out, while some found benefit, critical parts and the claims the guru made were completely wrong. It is not the only example of guru error with respect to Grand Prix Legends.

I probably used to much brake just trying to get a feel for the car and try to keep it off the wall. I think I'll be getting good lap times soon.

If I wasn't so humble I'd feel insulted.
Just a guy with spastic bighead syndrome.
Comes and goes.
Sometimes can't help it especially when it comes to Grand Prix Legends.
In which case I always defer to the actual gurus di GPL.

Now I have a Win10 machine, I got rFactor to run on it fine, now I'm on to GPL, do I need to get the 2004 Demo to get it to run or just get Gem on here and follow the directions on http://www.gpllinks.org/ I really want to see how good this sim can look.
I got NR2K3S running too to get my occasional oval fix, LOL!
