Just heard the sad news that John Miles passed away yesterday (Sunday 8th April).

Whilst not really making it as a Team Lotus F1 driver, his influence on engineering good handling road cars should not be underestimated.  Firstly working at Lotus Cars.  IIRC I once saw an article which argued that John and the engineers he helped develop had a very wide influence on such cars as the Ford Focus and VW Golf mk5.

John drove a base model Focus himself because it handled better than the sportier RS etc versions due to the lower weight in the nose. Bought one myself because of this, and it's a delight to drive.

Vale, John.

RIP John Miles. I do not know a whole lot about him but starting as number 3 in Team Lotus and forced to drive the Lotus 63 must have been very difficult.
