I knew this was coming, but it's still sad news. This hit close to home for me because we were nearly the same age and because Rudy was the first internet friend I ever made. I had posted a problem I was having at RSC about 11 years ago. I don't remember what the specific problem was, but it had to do with GPL and Windows. Rudy was the first to answer and he gave me the advice that fixed my problem, after lecturing me about how much Windoze (that's what Rudy called it) sucks and that I should buy a Mac, of course.
Well, he never was able to convert me to Macs, but it was the start of a friendship through the internet that lasted until Jun 18th of this year. So long, dear friend! I shall miss you. I'm sorry that you're gone, but grateful that your suffering is over.
Besides GPL, Ruud's other sim racing passion was the vintage Formula V mod for rFactor that he was part of. He also made about a half dozen tracks for rFactor with that mod in mind. I think I'll fire up rFactor today and drive some vintage Formula Vee's on Rudy's tracks. He'd like that.
Remco, thank you for posting this. I was hoping one of his countryman would see an obituary or something when the time came and would let us know. It's sad news, but it's good to know and not wonder about it.
edit. It was the vintage f v mod that Rudy loved. Added vintage to my post.
