I know what you mean. I hate programs that promise to clean up your system for free. After they check it out, and find a gazzillion problems they ask for money to fix it. I hate being hustled like that.

I was tempted to try the link you posted. My concern is it might undo some of the stuff Nick had me change. What I have now is working good, and I hate to mess with it.

I never go near registry cleaners.
My pc technician once told me. If he ever caught me using one,he would never associate or talk to me again!

Pete you have gone so far with Nick's tricks I would not try something else because seems its working for you, and you know what you did. Congrats. Tried a registry cleaner many years ago. Seemed it worked first time, so I tried running it again and it crisp fried everything.

That was it. No more of them until this one, which does other things also, seems credible, seems it worked, offers upgrades and support with a phone number/chat, etc...

But 99/10 times would agree with Twinpotter, except know of no trustworthy tech guru to rely on atm, so just took a shot.

Yeah, i'm afraid to touch my system now. I've had no lockups since doing it in sims that would lockup with just me on the track. I can run 30 car races now.

John: Keep us posted with the success of your program! We're pinned thanks to Ginetto.

Pete: I bought and ran the OODefrag and it was a major pain in the a$% for someone with apparently little patience

seemed to take days. Again worth the effort. Only thing I paid for. His guide makes you feel like your walking a tightrope!

Turbo: Your welcome!

I've been lurking around for years reading, learning from all of you. Wanted to set up something to have fun!

I'm not online with the racer, rig (what do we call it?) Update with win/microsoft occasionally. As per the guide

updated graphics drivers etc to a point and stopped when things worked well. Oh and had to step back a nvidia

driver because of something forget what. Rambling.. Thanks everyone!

Things seem marginally better after running ASC8, (post 17 abv).

In GPL menu screens flip much faster for sure.
It seems to hold good FPS a bit better than before at Spa67.
With a full field on grid not much improvement but by Eau Rouge running solid 35plus FPS, so probably a little better all around.
Did notice it seems Spa track loads faster and has less difficulty un-loading.
Sound maybe plays better also...less little blippy glitches entering and exiting car.

Sorry no hard data but does seem to help and didn't mess things up.

weldmetal 12, thank you for starting this discussion.  I also, ran through "The Bible" and wow.... after around 4 hours of tweaking my Toshiba laptop ZIPS like it was new!!!

Many thanks!

Your welcome. I'm glad you found it to be helpful. Often troubles with gpl are caused by windows

and not the other way around.

Wondering today about someone with troubles in win8 and gpl. Anyone willing to try the bible on their win8.

Differences between 7 and 8?

Well I've gone through the guide (man this guy likes to talk a lot) and I can tell you that it is a very well done and complete guide (Kudos to him for his patience!) but it is no Holy Grail, neither unique or specific to Win 7.
What he listed are common tweaks, not harmful at all, and meant to speed up and boost your Windows copy, and they apply from 7 onward. I can tell because I use all of them plus some more which are not in the guide from my 7 throughout 8 and now 10. So, if you are on Win8 or 10, yes you can follow the guide no problem ;)

John,

tried ASC 8, but he did nothing special to speed up the PC.  Must say that I have Avast Antivirus free version installed.Win 7 32 Bit.

Two month ago,I bought Avast CLEAN UP,that installs as an option Inside the antivir . Cheap, and efficient. Boosted the applications .So certainly the two programs do the same repairs, and ASC 8 , executed after Clean Up did nothing.
