I can't speak to what they are doing now but back then it was just too slow of a process for me to continue.
The Gordini was the best of the 3 cars as far as clipping and just recently found this image when I was looking for Gordini pictures on my old Windows machine.
Blast from the past.

You'd need a pair of coloured filters, in opposite colours for this. And a program to combine two images in those colours. The result is an image which looks 3 dimensional, and is called an Anaglyph.
Left and right photo's occupy the same space, and the filters (glasses) you wear, each show you one only, of the 2 opposite colours. So, you'd grab two slightly different images of your model, combine them, and create an image with visual depth.
