I'm shopping for a 34 inch widescreen monitor (likely 2560 x 1080p).  Does G-sync (for Nvidia GPUs) or FreeSync (for ATX GPUs), make any difference what so ever for GPL if you don't exceed 60 fps?

Yes freesync does make a difference. Anno 2021 I wouldn't recommend any monitor without freesync, it's a must for playing games.
But it more meant to keep everything smooth when the framerate goes below the max refreshrate.

Freesync monitors will also often work with Nvidia gpu's, but if you have an AMD gpu it will only work with Freesync.
Gsync monitors are often also more expensive so I would go for a Freesync monitor anyway.

I have this 34" LG with freesync and the GTX 1060 and made a test.

Yes, freesync works, full smooth 60fps. You have to switch off vsync else it has horrible flicker.
But after back in pits and back in car it was more or less random if it was working...

So I did switch back to vsync what works smooth all the time and no difference to freesync in quality.

IMO, as vsync is implemented in GPL rasterizers and your GPU is 150% of mine you should never have problems if you keep the GPU awake...

If you want to run GPL at 36 fps like me then G-Sync is the way to go.

Looks like the G-sync monitors are much more expensive.  I guess I will stick with Freesync
